I remember Brainless standing out more than the other tracks on the album when I first heard it. The sound sounded more Slim Shady LPish than others. Either way, I really liked this song, mostly because nothing bothered me. Eminem did the hook, and there wasn’t a sample or hook by a chick that bothered me, the instrumental although hard to say was good, worked, and Eminem’s lyrics were good too. It has an alright concept. The idea is more like a theme. Eminem doesn’t really want to say he’s a genius, that doesn’t seem his style. So he makes the lyrics about he’s brainless and brain damaged, and if he did have a brain, he would be dangerous. And this is a pretty long song, it almost tocks in around five minutes, but for some reason I can keep going the whole time. It holds your interest long enough. Also, one of the best parts of this track, the opening with the black chick from Superbad. I’m sorry, the first time I heard it, I couldn’t help but smile. One of my favorite movies on an Eminem song. Yeah, for me that was cool. Anyway, like I said, the instrumental is good enough, it does its job. When he is going in on the verses it offers a nice enough beat. I know how Eminem was trying to go for older style beats for the album, and I think that didn’t work on some tracks, but it was good enough for this one. Anyway, I like the song, it has a very interesting style and energy. I like the hook, somehow despite Em’s not so great singing ability (as he proved on Stronger Than I Was) he still can do some pretty good hooks. The track also has some visuals in the lines. Not enough I can make a music video in my head, but some lines you can picture it like the couple with the bully. Anyway good song, not much else I can say.
Brainless gets a 3/5
