For those who don’t watch anime, because I’m sure anyone who does already knows what Naruto is about, but Naruto is a very popular anime about a boy with a cursed demon fox inside him, and he tries to become not only a great ninja, but the greatest village in his village, otherwise known as the title Hokage. I’ve been doing reviews on Dragonball Z, and it’s very easy for me because I own series on DVD, Naruto however I don’t own, even though I really want to. For those who’ve read my manga reviews, you’ll know how far I’ve gotten in the series, which to some isn’t very far at all. However, I’d like to watch the show online, but I thought why not make reviews while doing that. Considering I’m also doing so many other reviews and how long it took me to just finish watch and start reviewing this one episode, I’m assuming this could take awhile. Any way unlike Dragonball Z, I actually really get nostalgic watching the first episode of Naruto. You see Naruto as a young boy who can’t really use any jutsu , and he is more or less purposely trying to be a comedic kid to get attention. You get introduced to Naruto and see some other characters that eventually become huge in the story, but for now it’s just Naruto and his teacher Iruka sensei. Naruto fails the graduation class again and he was really trying this time. Iruka is kind to Naruto, even though strict. He’s forced to fail him, but another sensei named Mizuki tells Naruto that if he steals a sacred scroll and learns a jutsu from it, he passes. Of course he does this to trick naïve Naruto into getting the scroll for him, after this he reveals himself and tries to kill Naruto, but Iruka saves his life. Mizuki tells Naruto about the Demon Fox spirit that lives in him, and that’s why people treated him as an outcast. Some other stuff happens and Naruto takes on Mizuki, and the Shadow Clone jutsu he couldn’t form three forms of, is now his signature move after studying the scroll, and he can summon dozens, and uses them to take down Mizuki. Mizuki is a high class ninja, and losing to a kid barely out of school seems really unrealistic, but for the terms of story I’ll let it slip. Naruto then is congratulated by Iruka to be graduated. The episode covers a lot, and I got goosebumps when Naruto first successfully used the shadow clone jutsu. And the funny thing is I was going back into this episode thinking I would give it an eight tops, but really the episode is flawless besides Mizuki losing to Naruto, which I can excuse. The episode as a whole when I finished watching it I thought I was going to award a nine, but after thinking back the nostalgia of the episode and enter the Naruto world again, I can’t help but give the episode a ten. It’s a low ten, but I feel like the episode does everything it could and more. Also I feel like I could watch this episode again and again with no problem. It’s emotional, epic, and is a great way to start one of the most popular anime ever.
