Episode 5 (Battle of Nibi Gym) Review
Yeah, Japanese name, watching English dub, whatever. Anyway, the gang arrives in Pewter city, and they meet a strange man. After visiting the Pokemon Center Ash decides he’s going to go for the Pokemon League, and his first step in that is to beat the gym leader of Pewter City. When he gets there he meets Brock, who is a lot more hard and strict that later in the series. But after losing Ash is determined to try again. At his aid is the man from earlier who show’s Brock’s other side, and how he takes care of ten brothers and sister (somebody must have been doing a lot baby making) and then they do this weird river thing to power Pikachu, even though I’m not sure that even worked. But they try again, and they get one Pokemon down, but stumble as they fight Onix. But Brock let’s Ash go, saying he doesn’t want to hurt his Pokemon. That’s’ when the sprinklers hit, leaving Onix open. Ash hits a super power thunderbolt that gat amped from the water, and after that is about to finish him. That’s when Brock’s brothers and sisters stop Ash, who surrenders. But Brock follows Ash, and gives him the gym badge anyway. Then he tells him to live his dream, since he can’t. That’s when strange old man reveals himself as Brock’s father, and say’s he’ll take his responsibility so Brock can go with Ash. And that’s about it, besides another forced part to get Team Rocket in there. Anyway, great episode, I’m thinking a light four. Gym Battles are epic, and finally getting Brock on the team is nice. From here the adventure really begins. So we’ll get started on episode 6.
