Episode 27 Review (Zuko Alone)
Yes, the first and last episode entirely about one character, and it’s Zuko who we haven’t seen in awhile. And he on the road starts to feel hungry, so he enters a town, and he gets his food taken, but a boy who got it taken let him eat at his house. So they take Zuko in. But the family’s son pretty much dies, and the Earth Kingdom bullies around town are making a big joke of it. (Again, I like people in the other nations are mean besides the Fire Nation, and people in the Fire Nation can be good) Then before Zuko leaves, he gives the boy a knife he gets in the flashbacks we get throughout the episode. (we’ll get to that) After he leaves, he’s quickly is thrown back after some bad feud between the bullies (They’re not cheesy bullies, they’re good ones) and he faces them. He tosses them around, but has trouble with the main guy. But he’s forced to use his firebending to defeat him, announcing he was Zuko. (Not the smartest move, but I think he kind of had to. Plus he didn’t want to run away from who he was) And of course everyone just loses their shit after that, thinking he’s the devil. Even the kid and his mother are totally looking down on him, and the kid even after being saved won’t take the knife, he just says he hates him and turns away. And then Zuko walks into a very dramatic and almost sad sunset ALONE. And I love that, even though the kid was a bit much, but the more the better. The more turmoil just bubbling inside Zuko, the better. But we’ll get back to that later. Back in Zuko’s childhood, we get so much depth with his past. His sister, his mom, his old life. And yeah, best part about this was Azula. This really showed the best of her twisted little character, and showed how she formed, which really helped her character. And her voice man, it helped with that twisted little girl persona. And Iroh gave them some gifts, like the dagger to Zuko, and the doll to Azula. And yeah, he was basically saying, Zuko, be honorable, Azula, be a girl for once. So Azula burns it of course. And yeah, she’s past bully. She’s like a devil in the back of his mind, and you can see it’s still affecting Zuko. "Azula always tells lies,” yeah, it fucks him up. And then the news of Iroh’s kid hits. And yeah, after that he comes home because he’s so distraught. And then that’s when Zuko’s dad tries to make a move to become Fire Lord, who isn’t as insane as you’d think. It just seems to get worse and worse for every generation, ending with Azula the most twisted of them all. But the Fire Lord dies, and Ozai becomes the Fire Lord. Then the big Zuko’s mom scene where she dipped. She called "Deuces,” and something happened, and a lot of people are confused, but that’s for another time. Zuko I believe is the best character, although Toph is my favorite. But Zuko has it all, and he really is the best if you want to go all statistics. He has attitude, back-story, depth, and so much more. He’s so confused and has so many things swimming in his head. Even when he goes to clear his thoughts this type of shit happens. You know when you’re an outcast whose hated, and you want that honor and that feeling of getting over his sister. But without his mom who was suppose to be the guy who kept his good side, Iroh had to do that. And book two really is when all this cool shit happened to Zuko, and I love that. His family really showed so much of his character, and this episode was so helpful and amazing. It had good story, good pacing, the back-story was probably the best yet, and of course Zuko’s character was improved a lot. I loved this episode, and it’s one of the best ones.
