God damn already on episode seventeen., and yet still hundreds of reviews to go before it’s done. I guess I’ll have time before I decide what series is next. Episode seventeen starts off with a bang as Piccolo verses Gohan in their first real fight, and Piccolo officially beats his ass! First complaint? Light him up with laser beams! WONDERFUL TRAINING METHOD! But this episode isn’t about Gohan or Piccolo, it’s about the little guys as they prepare for the Saiyans. They are on the lookout and seek Kami’s training, and he has Popo give them the Pendulum room, and that’s where our episode really gets interesting. The Z-warriors fall for the room’s spell, and end up in a destroyed area filled with Saiyan corpses. Soon they encounter two Saiyans, one of which kills Chiaotzu on first greeting. And we’re just beginning! But soon Krillen, Yamcha, and Tien also die. This fight shows that sometimes even though the characters are fighting for a great cause and have heart for a battle, sometimes your opponents are just way out of your league! And the fact they know that the Saiyans coming to Earth are twice that strength, and that stick around says how courageous they are. Not to mention the Pendulum Room is an awesome mechanic. It’s a shame this was only in a single episode, because using the past as training would have been really great ideas for future episodes, and would have given a great excuse for single episode characters. In the end this is a really close on between great and good, but I just have to give it great for giving the Pendulum Room, and if this episode hadn’t happened I would’ve really wanted to see Tien and the others do some kind of training. By the way, even though they didn't really die, Krillen and Yamcha were murdered in this episode. Let's wait to count up all the times this happens...
