Episode 10 (Fushigidane and the Isolated Village) Review
“Hey, it’s rude to tackle people!”
“Yeah, she’s right!”
Oh, this is why I love dubs. Anyway, this is a very big episode. And one of the ones I as a kid had on VHS, and so it’s automatically more special to me. And it’s part of the trio where Ash catches all the starter Pokemon. And like the Pokedex, it starts with Bulbasaur. Basically our trio gets lost, (won’t be the last time this happens, believe me) and they stumble upon a bridge, and it gets destroy. Luckily Brock has the magical ability to survive large drops to the water, and does. Then Misty and Ash get caught in more traps, and Brock, who was rescued by a “beautiful lady.” Ah, the first of many crushes for Brock. Anyway, they meet her, and she has this… spa type thing that is in no way a village, although the episode title says it is. Whatever, she takes care of Pokemon there, that’s all you need to know. And the protector of said spa/village/whatever the hell it is, Bulbasaur. And he’s kind of an asshole, goes around tackling people, you know how it is. But then Team Rocket attack (they matter in this episode!) and they try taking the Pokemon. Of course they get thwarted and go on with life. But the girl tells Ash about how Bulbasaur almost does too good of a job, and because it’s so safe all the Pokemon want to stay, and how she wants him to take Bulbasaur. (So she wants an unsafe environment so the Pokemon who came to be safe aren’t so safe, got it!) And the important part, Ash fights Bulbasaur, and it’s a good segment. All in all, it was a good way to get Bulbasaur on the team. He has some character, and it was short and sweet. Nice simple adventure. I’ll give it a low score for a good job with a bonus of nostalgia.
Pokemon Episode 10 (Fushigidane and the Isolated Village) gets a 4/5
