Episode 1 (The Gang Gets Racist) Review
It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia a couple months ago I didn’t think much of, I almost just didn’t like it for some reason. And yeah, that wall came down pretty fast, and it’s probably my favorite comedy show. It’s that good, and I’ve skipped around just about each episode, and I got season one and two on DVD, so I thought I’d start some reviews, so let’s get down to that. The first episode is not this big introductory, the characters don’t meet for the first time, it’s just another episode. Dee meets a black dude from her acting class, and they’re acting weird by it. Then he transforms the bar into a gay bar. Meanwhile Charlie is using the girl who turns out to be his sister to prove he isn’t racist to the waitress. Just your typical first episode, right? And ultimately, it’s not that special of a first episode. It’s also extremely mild for what the show grows into. Not that it’s not funny, I laughed aloud a couple of times. They’re just so racist while trying not to be racist, and it’s super funny. It also has some just really good parts from Mac and Charlie making the wrestling scene to the black guy turning out to be gay. Or fucking Dennis being a bar tender. Or that damn ending. But yeah, I thought when I went into the episode in review mode I’d just be good, but this is a classic episode for me at this point, and it deserves more. But basically the entire first episode can be summed up in the line, “how’s that ass feel?”
It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia Episode 1 (The Gang Gets Racist) gets a 4/5
