Superbad Review
Starring: Jonah Hill, Micheal Cera, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Emma Stone
Director: Greg Mottola
Year: 2007
One of the many reasons why I love comedies so much is movies like these. Superbad is a comedy, is well written, and makes you laugh your ass off. It’s a simple good time, one you can experience again and again. The characters are dynamic, and range from the infamous cops to the iconic Mclovin. Any attempt to go out there is a huge success, and we as crowds can find the randomness in this movie amazing. The cast of Superbad is one of my favorite movie casts, if not my favorite. You can even find brilliance by the mere side characters, and finding things in the background. Did you know Dannie McBride was a background character? It’s a fun movie, and the plot is three teenagers trying to get alcohol because they think it will get them laid. The three main characters make a perfect trio that really could have any amount of screen time and I would have been fine with it. But the trio of the cops and Mclovin is just way to good not to be the best. The cops in this movie are the perfect assholes, and do everything a cop shouldn’t. The only thing it needed was a few pothead jokes, but seeing some stoner jokes are gimmicks, maybe it was best left one bong in the background. (or at least I only found 1. Then again the script was written when alcohol was a lot more popular) Another thing I liked was this movie started a lot of careers. Mclovin can only be called Mclovin, the moment the camera started rolling his real name was wiped off his birth certificate. The only thing Mclovin could also be called is Red Mist, and maybe a member of Kiss My Anthia. (I don’t know to spell Kiss My Anthia) Everything from the clothes the characters wear to the seemingly endless funny script seem to make it funny. The movie does its best to make real life situations, and the movie seems to make bad coincidences. I don’t really know how to explain it, but I think I’ll dip into the movie just this once. Wait for, "Fuck thinking, we need to act!” And then somebody gets hit by a car. The guy in the car is another funny minor character, and brings the boys to the next destination. It works in the end, and is not a complaint in any way, just felt like pointing it out there. I literally could watch Superbad over and over again if it was ten hour movie, and that’s says something. Every line is perfect, and few I watched and thought it could be done better. It’s almost a classic to me for some reason, but I don’t know how to describe it. Comedies I like because they’re simple plot, and they make something simple and turn it into the extreme. Superbad makes for one of my current favorite comedies in my collection, and even favorite movies. I don’t care what anybody says, the guys who make these movies are good at movies, and watch the commentary, because it does tell you a lot. There was a week where I listened to a lot of commentary while I wrote in my book, and Superbad’s commentary gave me as much entertainment as the others. It’s hard for me not go deep into this movie without spoilers, but damn just watch it if you haven’t. Superbad is a movie about three assholes trying to get laid, and the word popping into my head is brilliant. Only Superbad! Another thing, watch this movie more than once. This is the movie you can only review after around the fifth time watching, because it only gets better and better.
Superbad gets a 5/5
Spoilers: How many infamous parts are in this movie? Okay, I would like to say every awesome part in the movie, but then I’d be giving you a play by play of the movie. God I want to make DVD commentaries! Weather it was either time Seth got hit by a car, any moment with either Mclovin or the cops, or any moment with the minor characters. I feel like these guys are from a real high school, and the characters are all greatly diverse. I LOVE SUPERBAD!
