The 40-Year Old Virgin Review

 The 40-Year Old Virgin Review
Starring: Steve Carell, Catherine Keener, Paul Rudd
Director: Judd Apatow
Year: 2005

When I first started getting DVDs, I was getting a lot of the Apatow humor movies like Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Knocked Up, and well, the 40 Year-Old Virgin. And I do really love these movies. I think they’re really funny, and have some heart and substance which is actually hard to accomplish when having to have over the top sex jokes all over the place. Don’t get me wrong, those jokes are funny. For a quick synopsis let’s just say Steve Carell’s characters is well, a 40-Year Old Virgin. I guess you could have figured that out. And he rides a bike to work, works at a tech store, has a bunch of toys, basically they got it down he’s a big loser. And when his co-workers that turn into friends find out, they get him in sexual episodes in efforts of trying to get him laid. But not American Pie sex episodes, it’s more funny and adult… yet still good for getting a young audience like me to laugh our asses off. And then he meets Percy Jackson’s mom, and then he starts seeing her, and he’s in a big mess because he can’t tell her he’s a virgin. And yeah, I love this movie. And I’ve seen this enough times the humor is kind of old by now, but I still managed to laugh like twice just watching it now, and for how many times I’ve had to sit through this with friends or my brother or something, that’s good, most movies on my shelf couldn’t make me laugh at all in the first viewing. And yeah, it’s that humor, and idiots like me are going to laugh their asses off, and it’s harmless humor. The punch lines are good, they may not hit the nail on the head with their lines like some of the other movies in this almost series go, but it’s still really funny.  I mean sex jokes meeting awkwardness meeting Seth Rogen and his buddies with non filtered slapstick comedy, yeah it’s not like this easily could have been a bad movie. But no, from what I’ve heard mostly everybody likes this movie, and I like when I can agree with Rotten Tomatoes and their asshole opinions sometimes. And yeah, it’ll be a good time if you’re going in for something funny, and oddly a little romantic. Like this would be the movie you watch when your in a cool relationship with someone. Like not stupid date movies, this, a much more chill relationship. Anyway, the characters. I will say I think maybe except for Knocked Up, I really like the characters in all these movies, and this one is no exception. The people at this store, that’s all I need to say. You got an awesome manager that is literally probably as best she can be in all of her scenes, the usual cast of Rogen and Rudd with some others, and more. And each character has their own thing, like how they’re doing with relationships, and none of them are exactly going perfect in their relationship, fuck nobody is. And by doing so, it gave the movie substance by having serious shit…. Okay sort of serious shit within its self. It gets a pass for the substance, and it’s good when we can turn our brain off, and we turn it off with a smile. And the 40-Year old virgin as far as I know is one of the firsts of these kind of movies, and kind of broke the ice for a lot of other movies I like to come to. Seriously, a world without movies like Superbad, Pineapple Express, and Forgetting Sarah Marshall is a sad place. And I don’t want to say it’s a movie that never gets old, because well… it’s gotten old for me. Just saying I feel like waiting at least two more years before seeing it again. But then again, I’ve had to rewatch this movie a lot. And if I have to hear Michael McDonald’s Yah Mo B There one more time, I’m going to Yah Mo Burn this place to the ground. (See movie for reference) And as far as how long the movie is, I’ve heard it’s a little too long, and I’ve felt that at times, but I still feel it’s as long as it’s suppose to be. And yeah, for those who don’t know, this is one of those movies you’ll be quoting a lot, and people at your school will look at you funny when they overhear you making an odd reference… so that’s why you tell them, "Back the shit off, and stop with the inquisition.” Seriously, if me and my brother can play You Know How I know You’re Gay, which is in this movie, then yeah, some lines will stick, just maybe not as much as some of the other movies. I will say the movie is funny as shit, it has some real substance (or at least as much as it needs too), is a good blend, funny as shit (I didn’t say that already) and just had the little things. Like technically this was Zack and Miri getting together in a completely different movie, eh? I will say I wish it told a little more, like what happened with Andy’s stuff? Like, did he sell it all? I guess that’s a "let the viewer decide,” things, but it actually is a big part when you’re talking about the movie on what it’s suppose to be, but fuck that, that’s not what these movies are for. It’s for the reasons I’ve described, and that’s enough reason to love it. You know how I know you’re gay? Because you actually made it to the end of a review about a virgin.

THe 40-Year Old Virgin gets a 5/5
Spoilers: Um, more epic quotes?  "Yeah, we represent the same Smart-Tech!” "You look like a man-o-lantern.” "Well, I didn’t know all that. So, I am sorry.” "Gina.” "Because she had man hands the size of Andre the Giant’s, and an Adam’s apple the size of your balls.” "Do you want me to be fucking retarded?”  "You will receive none of the commission.” "FUCK A GOAT!”
