Episode 17 Review (The Northern Air Temple)Now here’s an episode. I’ll go as far as to say this is the best episode we’ve had in awhile. The gang goes to another air temple, and since they’re heading north, it’s obviously the north air temple. But the temple is changed. On one hand there are these kids who made their own way of air bending, but on the other hand they’re destroying this temple in order to rebuilt it. They’re scared shit literally with pipes and machinery in it. And it’s suppose to show the sides of technology growing, and kind of nature/sacred grounds that get fucked the more and more people grow. And there’s two characters, a father and son. Both are real cool. The son can’t use his legs, and his dad is a really cool inventor. But soon they enter a door that shows the inventor is making weapons for the fire nation. And a fire nation soldier confronts him, and the inventor is by no means a bad guy. And basically this is war. The fire nation versus the air temple people, and it’s a really fun fight scene. Sokka even invents this air balloon thing so they can get the win, and it’s really cool. And the resolution without really taking sides too much in the argument leans to the technology, and does so with a nice comparison to a hermit crab taking the home in its shell. I really thought it was a good message, and had a strong last shot. The fire nation soldiers get their hands on the air balloon after it had fallen, and they basically say, "well we lost… but we’re going to raise so much shit now.” And yeah, they have the power of air, something that was kind of a weakness before. Ultimately, I liked the characters, they were a little better than most of the show once and hardly ever again guys. I liked the gadgets, the visuals of all the fighting, the end, the moral, I liked everything. It’s right under a nine, and goes good into the direction of ending the season. (But Jesus get there already!)
