 Episode 6 (Pippi and the Moon Stone) Review

 

“The Clefairy come together and… do the Macarena?”

Almost as good of a reference to your Minnesota Vikings reference Ash, almost. Anyway, our group goes through Mt. Moon. And you know the Pokemon games when you go through caves? Actually video game caves and dark places in general? Yeah, they’re not fun. Dark, gloomy, and you always want to get out but they’re always way too damn long. Nope, apparently in anime you have little adventures with quirky weird scientists instead. And that’s what we have in this episode. The gang sees somebody is messing with Mt. Moon because of the weird scientist, (I love these NPC characters personalities and how gimmicky they are) And as they get down to it, it seems Team Rocket is behind it. They steal Mt. Moon (which is pretty fucking gigantic, and try to get away, but Onix saves the day. The team watch as the Clefairy celebrate, and many evolve. But no Ash, don’t try to catch them, they’re far too rare and cool to add to the team. So the team walks away, leaving the strange scientist to live amongst the Clefairy. Then along the way out, Ash runs into a sign saying Gary was here, and that he’s a big loser. And he runs off screaming, and ends the episode. I actually did have this episode on VHS at one point as a kid. It was one I lost pretty quickly though. However, this wasn’t one I thought was that great. Not nostalgic over it, and I think even back then I wasn’t all that into it. It’s good, and that’s about all I can say about it. Maybe caves are just boring everywhere.
