Episode One Review (Pilot)

 Episode 1 Review (Pilot)

Recently I finished watching the fourth season of Breaking Bad. I thought I would go back and hopefully start a review series of each episode to start my television reviews. And for those who haven’t seen the show, each of these reviews will contain spoilers, but only of the individual episodes, not future episodes to come. I’ll be breaking down the whole episode, so try to watch the show before reading the reviews. Anyway, Breaking Bad a series following a guy named Walter White. Walter is a high school chemistry teacher and his life just pretty much sucks right about now. He is working two jobs, one where he’s dealing with a bunch of disrespectful kids, the other he’s dealing with a dick of a boss at a car wash. Even his own handicap kid is kind of smart ass, and even at his own surprise birthday party he’s pretty much just not respected by anybody. A person who is his brother in law Hank who is DEA agent who in one of the first scenes watching himself on the news for busting a meth lab. At this point in the series Walt is just nervous to be holding a gun. This is an awesome series, and has story arches and character development that seems endless, so it’s interesting to go back and see them all back in the old light before any of the crazy shit happens. But Walt who is soon diagnosed with lung cancer quits his job at the car wash out of pure rage. He doesn’t even tell his family about his diagnosis and he seems so out of it he’s a zombie. He follows Hank along as he busts another meth lab. The lab is easily dealt with, and while Walter is waiting in the car he sees the debut of my personal favorite character Jesse Pinkman. At this point Jesse is a common meth dealer punk kid, but don’t worry that won’t last long. His partner was busted when Hank invaded the drug lab and he also lost all his equipment and product. After a almost comedic debut and reveal he was actually the drug dealer Hank was looking for, Walt approaches Jesse (Jesse is his former student) and tells him he wants his help to make meth, and he’ll turn him in if he doesn’t agree. Walt is obviously evolving, and that’s a constant theme throughout the series. Walt and Jesse are a really great duo, and although this is the first episode their in you can tell they’re going to have awesome chemistry, no pun intended. Anyway after Walt and Jesse make their first patch of drugs Jesse shows it to his old partner’s brother, but turns out him and his old partner are convinced Jesse was the reason of the DEA invasion. They pretty much take him hostage and bring him back to Walt wondering how Jesse got such good meth because they know he didn’t cook it. Walt convinces the two not to kill him and Jesse by letting them know his formula. He however tricks them and due to some clever chemistry is able to produce a gas in his little meth lab R.V. and escapes while the two holding him hostage die inside. (They were probably going to kill him anyway after learning his formula) So Walt basically turned what could have been a miserable situation to a bad one. He even while thinking the cops were coming tries to kill himself, but fails. But turns out it wasn’t cops, and the episode soon ends. The first episode is the debut of all my favorite characters and it’s really interesting to see them back in the early stages. The story already is going along quickly and smoothly, and has so many variables that you could really see how good the show is going to get, and this is only the beginning. Breaking Bad episode one is at a high mark already, and an excellent episode to start my television reviews.
Breaking Bad Episode 1 (Pilot) gets a 5/5
