The first song I heard by Lupe  was Words I Never Said, and it was before I wasn’t even into hip-hop or rap. You know back then even I could see it was a dope song, even before I really gave a fuck about lyrics or messages or the energies of a song. But when I went looking for more inspiring rappers, I came back to it, and instantly respected Lupe. Words I Never Said is an obvious anti war on terror/shady politicians. And it goes deeper and say we are apart of it because of what we do, and we’re almost asking to be pawns. The lines, "Complain about the liquor store, but what you drinking liquor for?” And "Listen to the pot, ain’t gonna make it stop,” are also lines that aren’t off topic, but also just good lines that are showing a good message. And this is a very underrated song in general. This didn’t even make billboard’s top seventy. What? This is easily one of the best songs of the year. Sure it’s not a song you’d bump, but for its message and lyrics it’s a fantastic song. Not to mention I can make a music video in my head very easily, and for me that’s something that really helps. Anyway, every verse is awesome, and every verse hits point after point after point without getting too preachy. And I don’t even agree with everything that he’s saying, but as I’ve said before, I’ll gladly take a extremely well done song with a couple parts I don’t completely agree with then another generic song. And rap isn’t politics, that’s why even if there is a message I don’t agree with in a song, I don’t write it off as a bad song, it still has message. But is this a bad message in general. Hell no, it’s a wonderful lesson, even the most hardcore politician can agree with. Even if the government was all roses and rainbows, you should at least keep your mind open. However this is pretty hardcore the government is bad, but that’s the point, you should at least acknowledge a point when it’s addressed. As for the sound, it’s great. Lupe has this flow that for some reason I really like, and Skylar Grey who keeps on the hook makes the song relevant to more people while also making it sound much better. And the hook gives me goosebumps at the end, so yeah, if she can do that, then she did a good job. As for the music video, it’s good. I mean what I see when I’m making my own is better. I mean the camera moves a little too much, there’s a dumb fight scene that I don’t really like all that much, but it’s still good. It still has some really good ideas and messages like the face masks they wear, and the little Lupe batch thing they had. Also I like at the end of the video the girl who takes off her face mask thing, that’s a really strong image. Also just the name is awesome. Yeah, you can have guilt just by doing nothing and not saying anything, that’s another really great point in the chorus and name alone. All in all just a fantastic song, with pretty much nothing I can think to talk bad about. It hit everything, and made it one of the best songs of the year.
