"Creative Topic" #27: E3 2014 Edition

So last year I delved into every E3 conference, telling about how I thought each conference did. This year, eh. Not that I didn’t follow it, I do have a PS4 now, and I want my games to finally come. That being said, I didn’t watch a single conference. But this year I thought I’d just knock them all out in one big thing divided into multiple sections. And I’ll only be talking about stuff I care about, so no more games I just talked about for the sake of it. Let’s get started!

Microsoft
So Microsoft did amazingly better than last year. They didn’t seem like their heads were up their asses, and they brought out some games. First off, I saw the Fable Legends trailer. And I know in my Fable III review I said I was done with the series, but that was years ago, and I might think about this if it ever hits the bargain pin. It looks fun, I’ll give it that much. Also, not a Dead Rising fan as of the time of this writing, but that DLC name, that was great. I’m not even going to try and write it down. Also, new Witcher and Dragon Age, I want to get in those series, so it’s nice I’ll have sequels when I finally get around to their earlier games. Also a new game by the guys who made Limbo, another game I’ll get around to eventually, that looks swell. And there’s a new Crackdown, so that’s interesting, again, more games I need to play. Oh, and Tomb Raider! Tomb Raider was a game on the forefront of games I super want to play, I just haven’t gotten a chance to get a copy, but I’ll play the shit out of it when I do. For now, the sequel looks dope, I’m happy it’s getting one. All in all, a pretty damn good conference, or at least I thought so. I thought Sunset Overdrive made me regret getting a PS4 a little bit, and hopefully I’ll get to games like that eventually, along with the dozens others.

Sony
First off LittleBIgPlanet 3. I’ve wanted to get into this series for awhile, and now that a game is coming to a console I own, I can! I’m stoked, what can I say. Dead Island is also getting a sequel, and I own the last game, I just haven’t gotten around to play it, so again, more sequels to games I need to play. Then GTA V is coming to PS4, I guess that’s... news. I already got it, so I’m good. Uncharted IV got announced, I’m happy. I desperately want to play the last couple of games, but again, I need a PS3 first. Then oh my God, Farcry 4! Farcry 3 was one of my favs of that year, and I am so happy the fourth looks like it’ll be going from the last game, and not previous entries in the series. There was also some Mortal Kombat X, and yeah, that looks dope, but thumb’s up to that. Then there was some Arkham Knight, reminding me to play the prequel, and that I should also replay Arkham City, because it was so dope. But yeah, overall, it was pretty damn good. I’d say maybe just a tad below Microsoft when comparing games. Then again, I’m more excited for these games personally, so to me maybe this was better. Then again, I just want Last of Us remastered so I can play it, and am happy I get to play a LittleBigPlanet game. Overall though they were about the same, another big thumb’s up.

Nintendo
Nintendo stepped it up this year. The Wii U is getting some games. Anyway, don’t got a Wii U, so I’ll be sticking with my 3DS. But that new Zeda, Yoshi’s game, Toad’s game, Kirby’s game, they all look bad ass. Oh, and that Bayonetta 2, I played the first one and loved it, so I’m happy that they’re Nintendo-izing that brand, that’s awesome. Nintendo deserves it, so why not? Mario Maker was also really cool, I was getting ideas in my head just looking at it. Hyrule Warriors also looks like a fun game, things like that are just cool to see. Then there were new things, like Splatoon, which looks bad ass. And the Amiibo thing, that was cool. That or it could suck, and it’ll be super expensive. But Nintendo has been king of side accessories, so why not get on that toy to game action? Then the two big things, Pokemon got a release date, fuck yes. Same with Smash Bros. Not exactly summer, but who cares? I know some things I’m getting for Christmas on my 3DS. Anyway, pretty dope year for Nintendo, I’m excited for that new Pokemon and Smash Bros, and eventually getting a Wii U years from now, and getting to these other games.

EA
So, there’s new Mass Effect... sort of. I’m happy it’s being made, but it’s like Kingdom Hearts 3 again! I want a normal announcement! Well, at least it’s being made, but I feel like Mass Effect isn’t the main series anymore for Bioware, I think that ship has sailed, and the trilogy is over, so that’s okay. There was new Mirror’s Edge however! Gotta admit, it looks really fun. I haven’t heard anything since last year, and I want this game already! Also Sims 4, I might get to play that eventually, so that’s nice. Besides that, I didn’t really care. The rest were sports, or maybe that Dawngate game. Fair conference, but I wasn't expecting much.

Ubisoft
That new Farcry villain looks like he’ll be giving Vaas a run for his money. Anyway, the Crew is the first racing game that’s made me want to play it. Assassin’s Creed Unity was unveiled, I don’t really care to be honest, but it’s worth saying. Besides that there was the Division and Rainbow Six, nither of which seemed great to me, but worth mentioning.

All in all, another year for video games to be displayed as shiny objects for the upcoming years(s) I had fun watching everything get announced back to back to back, and getting updates on projects from Dragonball Xenoverse to Mirror’s Edge 2. I’m awaiting these games to be stacked on my giant bucket list of games, and to see me getting around to those, keep posted.
