First off I want to start with the discussion between Kami and Popo. Not only was this Popo’s DBZ debut but it told how Piccolo was changing, and Kami even tells Popo he sees himself and Piccolo dying in the battle against the Saiyans. I like this conversation as well as some of the writing in the scene. After that you Gohan in a decent scene of him in his first minutes of survival, after that Goku almost falling into snake way already. I’m sure he’ll have no problem with that in the future! And then Krillen being Krillen as he tries to explain to Chi-Chi that Goku is dead, but as usual he can’t cause he’s Krillen. I think that scene could have been better to be honest. But you also get the T-Rex, and it chases the hell out of Gohan. These first few episodes really foreshadow Gohan’s inner strength, and it kind of feels like he’ll be the one to beat the Saiyans. But on another note, why are there dinosaurs in a world with flying cars? I never understood that part of DBZ. In this episode you really get character depth with smaller characters like Krillen, Ox-King, Chi-Chi, and Gohan who’s still new to the universe. You even get Baba’s debut, and I guess she just chills in otherworld from time to time. That scene with that restaurant in otherworld was very weird, just saying. But probably the best scene was the apple scene when Gohan was stuck on the rock. I felt that one helped with Gohan and Piccolo’s relationship, and it was nice to see even though Gohan was winy, you feel he’ll learn to get over it in time. In the end though I thought this episode was slower, and just got a good depth on smaller characters. Compared with the last few episodes it wasn’t as good, but still wasn’t bad at all either.
