DBZ was really giving a lot of story in the second and third episode alone. Not only did you get Goku’s origin story, but you got a new villain, Goku’s son, and the alliance between Piccolo and Goku. After Raditz leaves the injured Goku, Piccolo gets his real introduction, and then he declares the two have to team up to stop the new villain. Piccolo thinks in order to rule the world, he needs to stop Raditz who wishes to conquer it. This won’t make sense for those who haven’t watched DragonBall, but you assume pretty much all that happens. Piccolo in this actually seems like an evil asshole, Goku seems a little more heroic, and this is probably the best performance Raditz gave in any of his episodes. The story is getting somewhere, and you feel is rising quickly. The fact that Piccolo and Goku are teaming together to fight the greater evil makes for a good story. Also, to see Piccolo evil just warms my heart just a little bit. Thus why this review is dedicated to his colors. Also in this you learn exactly where everyone is in strength, Raditz’s scouter accurately tells you the strength of everyone. I really wish I could hear the mind of a DragonBall fan when he/she first saw these episodes. Just to hear their thoughts of how they were questioning why Gohan’s power level somehow rose almost beyond Goku and Piccolo’s combined. In the end this DBZ episode was the first effect of the onslaught of story from Episode 2, and the story from here will be action packed, and will only gets better.
