The Wide Window Review

The Wide Window Review
(A series of unfortunate events book 3)
Author: Lemony Snicket
Year: 2000

Now that I’ve reread the first three books, I’ve decided the Wide Window is my favorite of the first free in the series of unfortunate events. The characters really are at their best, and this one seems to have it all. First I want to get the flaws out of the way. First off, the plot of the wide window almost is a rerun of the reptile room on terms of story structure. Kids meet guardian, meet disguised Olaf, disaster strikes, then go from there.  When I look back on them, they are very different, but compared to the rest of the series it isn’t really that different. Another problem, I feel not enough really happens. At one part I just thought it was dull, and this even took longer for me to finish simply because I thought it wasn't as captivating as the other two so far. But in this, I really like the location. This series is known to me for have diverse and lively scenery, and the Wide Window’s location over the Lachymore Lake is no exception. Also, the characters are best so far that they've ever been. Not only is there the new Aunt Josephine, who actually is a really dynamic character, but Count Olaf as Captain Sham and his henchmen develop a little further. The orphans seems to have hit the point where it feels like a television show of a number of memories and experiences they’ve been through, and that only increases from here. The book has a really murky theme, and besides when the hurricane showed up I imagined it with fog around the characters. Also, as they state near the end, the orphans you realized do a lot, and if just one wasn’t there, their trio would feel very incomplete, and they’d already be doomed. But the wide window is certainly one of the more memorable in the series, and  I feel people who read the series, and stop, should at least reach it to the wide window, cause the series deserves at least three reads from it. The series is on a good lead, to see if it gets better make sure to read the future reviews.

The Wide Window gets a 3/5

Spoilers: Spoilers: In the wide window, how can you not guess that house was going to fall? Page one, and you guess, "Hey, I think that big ass house is going to fall!” Also, Mr. Poe randomly got mad in this book. Not really mad, but when Count Olaf was revealed he seemed pumped up, as if he was about to hurt Count Olaf. Who would of thought  Mr. Poe would do anything but cough and complain? Also, I have to say Count Olaf’s assistance that you can’t tell if it’s a chick or a dude, that person would probably be the scariest in real life. Some big fat thing just grabs you by the hair throwing you around like a backpack, how does some white powered faced women compare to that? And I have to call it a thing, which is even more creepy.
