Episode 26 Review (The Blind Bandit)

YESSS! Okay, this is so far my favorite episode, and that’s probably because it introduces my favorite character, who is Toph. But we’ll get to that. Anyway, Team Avatar is in another Earth Kingdom village, and they basically are trying to find Aang’s Earthbending teacher. And so first they try this school, but it’s pretty bad. But they get a tip to try this pretty much pro-wrestling parody Earthbending style competition. And they follow the Boulder as the Boulder makes his rise to championship! But the Boulder becomes conflicted by end, as the Boulder must fight Toph. And yeah, Toph is fucking awesome. She’s twelve, blind, and a girl… yeah, and she kicks ass! As she fights the boulder she has this really awesome stance, and I just love her own unique spin to the Earthbending. And yeah, the Boulder becomes upset because the Boulder’s ass is kicked. Sorry, the Boulder jokes aren’t funny unless you are saying them like the Boulder. Anyway, Toph uses Earthbending to see, and the vibrations on the ground tell her what’s going on. That’s why when Aang comes up to challenge her in order to get a chance to talk to her, she can’t see him as much, because he’s sweeping his feet all over the place. And yeah, she loses pretty quickly by ringout… but dammit if Toph could see him, she’d have kicked his ass! Anyway, the team takes the title and money, and try to find Toph. And through Katara having her ways, (her bad ass turning dudes into ice statues ways that is) The team then meets Toph at her house, and she’s like really pampered and treated like a princess who can’t defend herself, and her father knows nothing of how cool she is. So Toph and Aang after a pretty angry dinner have a more calming chat. But everything changed when the Boulder attacked. Yes, the earth wrestlers or whatever kidnap the both of them, and then everyone goes to pay off the money to get Toph, but Aang is going to be sold to the Fire Nation. So Toph has to break her character in front of her father to save Aang, and that’s what she does. And God, I even love the way she nonchalantly wipes these giant dudes out! She’s like moving her feet on the floor really cool, moving the circle thing… IT’S JUST SO AWESOME! Sorry, but really good fight. Anyway, after that of course the father… thinks she needs more protection. He must be high, or as blind as his dope daughter, because she obviously doesn’t need to be taken care of! So Toph decides to ditch her family, jumps a ride with the others, and gets hit over the head with the belt—wait what? So yeah, then there’s a scene where the father basically places a hit on Aang… what a great teacher. And so douche teacher and the Boulder must team up, and Boulder is happy, because the Boulder likes his shiny money, and shiny money is good for the Boulder!! And yeah, I loved this episode to death. The first time I watched I would give it like an eight, but I just love Toph, and this really is her episode. Becoming a main part of the team, and changing Avatar for the better. She’s a unique character, and really is just awesome. I thought the pro-wrestler parody thing has been kind of done before, and a little cheesy, but in the end I thought it was a cool concept, and the cheesiness got better the second time around. So yeah, this was another episode that had everything. Characters, plot, comedy, everything. Oh yeah, AND FUCKING TOPH! That’s more than enough for me! The Boulder is pleased with this episode. The Boulder rewards it with a solid ten. Welcome to the hall of fame Toph! *whispers* "Water tribe…”
