Episode 31 (The Desert) Review

Avatar: The Last Airbender Episode 31 (The Desert) Review

FRIENDLY MUSHROOM! Anyway, in this episode, the team is stuck in the desert. And of course, Appa is now gone, and Aang is pissed. He’s at I’m a douchebag now pissed. Anyway, first Aang goes and tries to find Appa while the others just keep walking. And it’s a failure for everyone. Katara doesn’t know what to do, Toph can’t even see properly in the desert, and Sokka drinks this cactus juice that gets him higher than a fucking kite. And I don’t know how hard I laughed the first time I heard him advertise his cactus juice, or when he claimed the giant mushroom cloud was friendly. All I know is it was the most funny moment in the series for me. Then after Aang calms down, although he’s still pissed he takes a break with the others. Then they continue their voyage, and Aang is still pretty pissed. They find a sand bending object that allows them to finally move, and that’s when they go in this cave, and it’s a dead end filled with bees. Luckily they get out, but only to run into sandbenders, who of which is the man who took Appa. Aang scares the hell out of him, and he admits he sold Appa, and he’s on his way to Ba Sing Se. So after an Avatar State freak out, the episode ends. While all this was going on, Zuko and Iroh almost got captured by the guys chasing Toph, but due to Uncle being in some kind of Lotus tile organization, he’s good to go. We’re still left in the dark about the group until the end of the show. Anyway, I thought this was a good episode. Although I get where Aang is coming from on the whole thing. He’s just a little too mad I think. I thought this was still a kind of good adventure like episode, just a little eh. It was suppose to be more angry, and it was understandable, but it wasn’t like I want to see Aang angry for so long. It was kind of sad, and I think sad would have worked better. I did like the Sokka cactus juice thing, but it didn’t fit in this episode a lot. But don’t get me wrong, I’m so glad they did that. It’s a good episode, and flowed naturally, but more sloppily than the rest of the season, in my opinion.
