Episode 48 Review (Gaara vs. Rock Lee: The Power of Youth Explodes!)

…The power of youth explodes. THE POWER OF YOUTH EXPLODES!? Really? Anyway, this episode although stupidly named is actually a really good episode between the beginning of the fight between Gaara and Rock Lee. It’s another two part match, but this one goes into the fight a little soon. And I have to say on terms of the fighting quality of the matches, this is the best fight of the preliminaries. Rock Lee is really good, and Gaara is obviously a beast, literally. But Lee seems to be able to get past his first sand defense with his Taijutsu, (We learn he can only use Taijutsu) and then we see Gaara after getting hit has a case of sand armor under him, and even better under his fake smile he has a really murderous evil one under it. (You know, the usual twelve year old) But Lee then removes his weighted training clothes he had on his legs (going Goku and Piccolo style) and then starts to kick some ass. He beat Sasuke with those, so I have no idea how he lost to Neji. He hit’s the Lotus and the episode ends as we’re staring at an empty shell of Gaara’s body. (My money on it being some kind of clone jutsu) and that’s it! This episode is more action, and that’s why it’s only a seven for me again, but I’m sure the next episode like the others will get an eight at least. This helped Lee’s character, and Gaara’s even though he didn’t really do anything but get hit. Also I laughed in the beginning with Guy, and in the end it’s just a good episode. One thing though about this whole thing though is the Chunin exam is flawed. In the Forest of Death if some ninja like Gaara went around taking everyone’s scroll, they were in a extreme environment, and you expect that kind of shit on missions. But in this they’re forced to fight, when on missions running from the fight would be better, and both of them deserve to be Chunin. The whole preliminary thing is flawed because if the person you got was stronger than you, then you don’t get to be Chunin, and that’s just not fair. Oh well, that has nothing to do with this episode, just throwing that in. Lastly, good episode, stupid name.
