Oh come on, why can’t you just have proper grammar in the songs that are suppose to be bigger? That little fucking 4 is going to just keep on bothering me. Anyway, I thought for this review I could go through in music video perspective, and move from point A to point B. First in the music video, there is a unique opening let’s just say. First a little fairy tale like poem pops up saying that king Nicki is visited by her Godmother… okay. And as far as Nicki being obsessed with being called a King, I feel if anything she shouldn’t. If you’re one of the few females in rap today, you should take pride in that, not make references to what you would do with a penis, and force people to call you king. And in the way she is, and kind of isn’t taking pride in being a female rapper, but not the point, just something I’d like to bring up. Then there is a weird opening where Nicki in her alter ego of Fairy Godmother comes to Nicki, and says she may have this moment for life. And she even makes reference to Roman’s Revenge saying Roman is out reeking havoc over the industry with Slim Shady. (I actually liked that part a lot) But again, her "alter egos” are her playing dress up, but if it makes for a cool video, I’d be okay with them. But with how quickly the rest of the opening of the video goes from making sense to what the fuck, I’ll just skip to the first verse. And I’ll say the first verse is actually very good. Although when she says "Don’t worry about me, or who I fire,” I couldn’t help but think that was oddly specific. And I will say the first verse to this song is pretty the best verse I’ve heard on the album so far. She sounds confident, and it syncs really well up with the beat. She actually makes it a well rounded verse that nails some rhymes on the head, and proves good points. Only complaint is the forced parts where it randomly would be for example: "g-g-greatness” They even edit the video like it was suddenly getting fucked with. Yeah, and she does that a couple times, and it’s a little annoying. And then the hook hits, and let’s talk about it. It feels very optimistic, and is actually a good hook in my opinion. It’s basically saying she wish she had this moment for life, but she’s still in the moment, and doesn’t know quite know when it will end. It has this feeling of uncertainty in the back, but still is kind of in the moment. And I think everyone has been places in their life where something is going just perfect, and you just don’t want it to end. And this definitely captures it. And for the video making it into a fairy tale kind of bull shit thing, eh. I mean if you ever watched a movie called Perks of Being a Wallflower, I’m brining it up cause I just watched it yesterday its ending is very much like this. That, that moment is what this should be, fairy tales I always of this feeling of bullshit besides it. Whatever, the teenage girl audience won’t give a shit, so I’m just over thinking it. And then Drake shows up with his verse and he… starts rapping about sex and how awesome Young Money is. Yeah. If you want my opinion of Drake, he kind of sucks in my book. Not all of his songs are crap, but even in a song like this, he’ll have a couple lines that just are like what the fuck, dude. In a song where he in the video and the LYRICS he is marrying Nicki in some bullshit fairy tale, he’s still opens the verse with hoes and Young Money. THE FUCK. And from there the rest of his lyrics change almost immediately, as if he was like,
"Hey guys, I just thought of a good line about girls dropping to their knees, I think I’m going to add it to Nicki’s Moment 4 Life track.”
"Um, you do know you are going to basically play a Prince Charming persona in that, right?”
"…I’m adding the line.”
As for the rest of his verse, it’s not actually not bad. He makes more good lines, and they don’t suck. And he in the end fits in the song, and gets more good lines, just not any that are really good, and that beginning, I’m sorry, is alien to the rest of the song. And after that Nicki gets back on to deliver the hook again, where in the video her and Drake make out (Okay it doesn’t show it, so maybe she just leaned in to say "you’re such a good a friend Drake,” sure that’s exactly what happened) and after that video ends, big fairy tale ending. And like with fairy tales, I kind of walked away at the very end saying, "that’s a load of crap.” Just saying, it feels like all other fairy tales like an imaginary land for little girls who can’t handle life, and that’s what I get from the video, and it may not be its fault, but dammit I hate these fucking everything is fine fairy tales, they defeat the purpose of life. Okay, again, not all about the video though, the song is most important. In the song, Nicki’s verse was probably her best so far on this album, and the hook as I said is also very good. And Drake is… okay. I guess that’s the end result with him. And… I just wish they’d have added one more verse, one more where Nicki just gives a good closing. Like the last song, it needed more. But at least it isn’t album filler, this is actually a song I felt well developed. Shit, look how much more I had to say about this one compared to the other garbage. But this isn’t a song I will ever likely listen to, even if it isn’t bad. This one I do feel like she tried something bigger, and I can respect that. But I just wanted that last verse, that last hit ending to truly express what else needed to be said. And this is really falling between a six and a seven for me, but I can’t say it’s good really. It’s just… not enough for me. The first half is really great, the second half is below average for what it needed to be.
