The Flavor gets a  3/5

The Golden Age mixtape dropped earlier this year by Dizzy Wright, and one of the songs that grabbed me a good amount more than the others was The Flavor. The beat unlike some of the others songs stands out a little more, and the sound is really nice. It has this Nevada desert feel, which helps when Dizzy is from Vegas. As for what he says in the lyrics, it’s pretty standard. Nothing crazy, mostly just some normal lyrics that were above average. Not that it was bad, but like a lot of Dizzy songs there weren’t a lot of stand out clever lines, or things that got me thinking. SwizZz on the other hand I thought brought a little more lyrically, and his flow fit the song better than I thought it would. If you’ve heard a SwizZz song, you wouldn’t think this beat at all, but SwizZz made it work. And I liked some of his lines like the clique/click one, it was all right. It’s not like a whole other level, but I thought he was more aggressive than Dizzy, which I thought helped as a featured artist. I thought he did a good job. Dizzy didn’t do bad either, his calmer flow worked for a song like this, and I loved the tone and theme, and I think the beat and hook are really catchy. I read in the comments they were sampling Naruto or some shit, I don’t know, I’m not up to date on my Naruto, but fuck it, that’s kind of awesome if they did. The song is kept short and sweet, which is good because this could have gotten repetitive if it wasn’t. The music video I thought was weak though, but yeah budgets. At one point Dizzy is just looking into the camera awkwardly for like twenty seconds as the hook played, and I don’t know why. I liked the man wearing a duster, that was pretty dope. Also the final shot was cool, but his other videos like Can’t Trust Them had high production value, and it was a great music video. The song isn’t fantastic, but still so far my favorite on the mixtape I still need to give an entire full attention listen. I don’t think it’s a great idea, but I think the themes and tones are a leading part of the song. Anyway, really like the song, especially the beat that gave it that flavor.
