Episode 3 Review (I Got a Pokemon!)

Ah, I wish I had that feeling when I caught a new Pokemon every time. Anyway, who the fuck could find Caterpie disgusting? I’m with Ash, I want that thing chillin’ like a villain on my shoulder. Anyway, pretty standard episode. This more or less just established some rules of the the Pokemon universe, and progressed the "story” a little further. We now understand some stuff like that, but for a person who knew that already, this episode is a little less than the last two. It’s still a very good episode though. Ash catches Caterpie, and he must have been on a roll, because he catches Pitgeotoo soon afterwards. Then Tem Rocket shows up almost casually, they battle, they get beat, and then Caterpie evolves. Pretty standard. But this episode had two things going for it, comedy and cuteness. And it was both. I did get a some chuckles, especially at Caterpie when he’s sad (which is also cute) and ash wiggling at that one part. "What’s wrong Caterpie?” It was funny. Also the whole Misty not liking bugs but getting there, nice little layer of character. I think by episode three they need to do this to show they’re not going to take every episode seriously, and that’s nice. This is what I want for a typical Pokemon episode, and it’s what I expect. I know later things will get… complicated, but let’s hope at least the entire first season is at this level the whole way through.
