Ten Annoying Rap Trends: "Creative Topic" # 14

"Creative Topic" #14: Ten Annoying Rap Trends
Before I give my list I just thought I’d say Rap/Hip-Hop are kind of by far my favorite genre. It’s easily what I listen to the most, and I since I started listening to music, I’ve loved Hip Hop. But there are noticeable things I really don’t like, and since I haven’t listened to a lot of older rap yet, it’s mostly newer trends you’ll see me not liking. Not saying if a thing has one of these trends it’s a bad song, and the person using the trend is a bad rapper, not saying that at all. These are in no order what’s so ever, just ten annoying trends I see. And again, I could find more things with the rappers, as they can do things outside of the music that annoys me, but I make a big wall between what the rapper does in real life and the music.

1. Saying the rapper’s name at the beginning of the song
The beat starts. Then, you’re reminded to who the rapper is. Then who is featured, and even the fucking producer of the song. And usually you’d see this just with little known name rappers who are trying to remind you who they are, but no, big rappers do this too, and it gets annoying.

2. The overuse of techno beats
There is a pretty distinct difference between R&B and rap. But that barrier breaks slowly when techno beats are being thrown all over the place. And some artists use them more than usual (Nicki Minaj for example) and when a person is spitting really fast while some techno beat is raping your ear, it just sounds awful. Not that all techno beat rap songs are bad, but there is a distinct overuse of them.

3. Stop. Using. That. Word.
Swag. Racks. Bands. A person in a rap song can say a fucking word, and a bunch of people will start making it a thing, only because that person is. And yeah, it can work making a new definition of a word, but it’s never really. Nobody takes the dude who says swag seriously anymore, despite swag already has a meaning, and racks has a real meaning, and a slang term. Swagger, just say that, it’s what you mean.

4. Stupid ass dances
Thank you Nas for pointing this out. Yes, not talented at making lyrics? Oh, just make a stupid dance. Sure all genres kind of do this, but it’s stupid in every one.

5. Same thing, new song
You ever check someone’s album and it seems every song is the same? And then they make a new album, and every song seems the same? That’s when you can’t think of any good ideas for a song, and bullshit your career together ‘cause you can. And not everyone has to make big changes like Eminem did, just makes your songs different. If I wanted songs about that thing, I’d have listened to your last album, not this one.

6. Rapper featuring rapper, rapper, rapper, rapper, rapper….
Again, it’s a little annoying when you got to a person’s album and you see they have like two songs by themselves. Being featured I think should be more of a big deal in songs, but no, it’s just kind of been reduced to nothingness, and you see like a million different rappers featuring on a million different songs, and they lose originality and no time to show what THEY are made of.
