Episode 1 Review

ANGEL BEATS! Yes, maybe about a year or so ago I watched Angel Beats, and it was a simple really good show. It wasn’t the best show ever, but it was great, and I could say that. And with the power of eBay I no longer had to deal with the fact it was no longer on Netflix, and could watch it at my own leasure. And so, I thought let’s go through with it. Simple plot synopsis, a guy name Otanashi wakes up, and he doesn’t realize he’s in a purgatory-like afterlife. And he meets a girl pointing a sniper rifle at another girl and asks him to join a battlefront that can’t seem to decide on a name. And thinking this is crazy talk, he confronts the girl who was about to be sniped: Angel. And Angel basically after a couple sentences stabs in the gut and kills him... he must be so assured now. And then he basically gets a handle on things, dies a couple more times, and joins this band of misfits. It’s basically a group of kids in an afterlife whose goal is to defeat Angel, that way they can have total control over the world... I think. To be honest, it doesn’t seem like they care a whole lot. It’s more like a Goonies thing where it feels like they’re hanging out, and they’re doing these big missions more for the fun of it. And they start their big first mission: Operation Tornado. And yeah, they basically are just going to steal food tickets or something. And that involves the group’s band playing really good music while the rest shoot pretty gunfire at Angel who deflects it with pretty powers that she has, and OH MY GOD I LOVE THE BRIGHT PRETTY COLORS! And yeah, they get what they want, and it ends. It’s so simple, and yet so fun. It feels like such a nice group of just fun characters, and we’ve only just begun! This brought it all back, it really did. I love this episode, it kicks ass. Fuck it, I’ll be generous and give it a five, it’s a really good episode, and I love it to death.
