The Grey. Or Gray, whatever the fuck. Damn English language. And the Grey is about a man starred by Liam Neeson, and he basically kills wolves for a living. And after a dramatic plane crash with all his co-workers he originally acted as security to protect from the wolves. Ironic now that they are being hunted by wolves right after this plane crashed in their territory. And yeah, originally I thought this was a survival movie based off the typical plane crash. I expected Alive with Liam Neeson. But no, the wolves are the idea of this movie. In fact I’m pretty sure the plane crash was just the segway to get a bunch of dudes alone with little to nothing to be in a cold ass wolf territory. And yeah, like every survival movie, people die. And like usual, a lot of characters are sort of just fodder for the wolves or harshness of the life around them. That being said, when these people die, they die. Not as in, "oh that was a cool death, good job movie!” No, like it feels so gripping, it feels like somebody died. They aren’t fodder because you care about them, even if you just met them. But the characters are just meeting each other, so it makes sense in a way. And I’ll just say, Liam Neeson was the make or brake character. If his character sucked, or if they got a bad actor for him, whole movie would have been bad. Maybe not completely, it’s well directed, but still. Liam Neeson’s character is like the wolf expert, and yeah, Liam Neeson is probably one of my favorite actors. Gods and bad asses, that should be his entire résumé. And he makes a great character in this, and he does a great job. And all the other characters, they’re interesting. Even if some are just there to die, not all of them are. They’re a cast, even if they seem to be going off one by one. They’re memorable. And there is that guy. You know that guy. There’s always that one asshole in these movies, one that gets down on all the good guys as they’re trying to live. And it’s always the redeemed asshole that eventually becomes one of the best in the movie. And yep, they did it good, and it was well executed. But all the other guys besides them, they’re just all right to good, but they get the job done. Each one is well acted at least. Anyway, usually I talk about what I thought about the story. But in this the story is mostly the terrible adventures of the unluckiest guys in the world as they try and get away from the wolves. But you really do pull for them. At one moment, and I guess this is a slight spoiler, but oh well. They get a wolf. And you just want to scream at the top of your lungs like, "YES! SUCK IT!” But the way the story moves, the way it throws you into this, it is gripping. Being intense is a good way to make a movie, especially when you add bigger pictures things. They aren’t morals, but more like a really cool quote that seems to be the idea of the movie. I liked it because it added that substance flavor to a survival flick. And they do really hit every scene about as well as they can. And you want to know another reason why this is a terrible situation? They are in the cold, and that’s the worst of all of this. If this was down in a normal woods, this movie would look like a stroll in the park. But no, for a person who grew up in below zero whether, trust me, this is the worst situation EVER. And the cold is right there with the wolves as the main protagonist. And the wolves are awesome. You could get all, "That’s not how wolves act!” But who cares. It’s fucking fiction, get over it. Then again I don’t know how wolves act, so it could have gotten it right, but I’m ninety percent sure it’s stretching it. But the wolves might as well be nicknamed the Hellhounds, because that’s what they are. They are like the raptors in Jurassic Park, except more dark and in the shadows. Yeah, raptors in the shadows, does that sound fun to you? Don’t answer because, no it does not. That is fact. And back to the bigger picture, it also gets religion in there. It’s a survivor movie, so who can blame it? But yeah, it doesn’t shove it down your throat, and it only lasts for a second, but it’s anti-religion, so that was new for me. Usually it’s the opposite. As for the ending, not everybody loves it. It’s something I’ve dubbed as "The Wrestler Ending.” Meaning the movie ends right at the fucking climax. But I’m fine with this is the resolution fits itself, and it all works out in the end, which it does. In that case, it’s pretty bad ass. And there is a after credits scene, although it doesn’t exactly help all that much. But the movie as a whole I thought was great. It was one of those movies during the movie I saw myself giving a nine, then at one point maybe just a seven, but not it came down to a solid eight. It’s your good see once every couple of years survival flick with Liam Neeson… sounds bad ass right? That’s because it is!

The Grey gets a 4/5
Spoilers: Live on this day, die on this day. Live on this day, die on this day. If that doesn’t say he died decking it out with a wolf I don’t know what does! And it says it twice, which I think means one line was meant for the wolf, which means the wolf died as well. I mean that’s how I want it to be. The movie made humans look like animals, so alpha wolf vs. alpha wolf. Plus they were both half dead on the other after the credits, so maybe he did live, that’s if the other wolves didn’t use him as a snack that is. But that moment when he walked into the den I shit bricks. That whole movie they were walking towards the wolves! See, worst luck in the world. And when the asshole guy died, sorry I don’t know his name, that was touching. One of the best redeemed stamp of approval there is. Anyway, great movie, must see.
