Episode 22 Review (The Cave of Two Lovers)

Katara and Aang in Cave of Two Lovers Episode 22 Review (The Cave of Two Lovers)

Now this is a different episode. The team runs into some hippie characters, and they’re interesting. And they have to get through this cave to get back to Omashu. Well, they try going the normal way, but the fire nation pretty much tries to destroy them in a pretty funny scene. And while this is going on Zuko and Iroh are struggling to get by. And so after Iroh is poisoned, they have to get help from these people, and they’re really friendly, and take them right in. And in the end although how nice they are, Zuko still steals their horse (okay it’s a different weird mesh animal, but it’s  a fuckin’ horse by normal people standards) And the girl just watches as he does that. I mean, does that not make Zuko look kind of pathetic? You know he can’t even get food, but when he’s given food, he just steals from them like an asshole. I mean, you can see his low, and even though he doesn’t show it, but he’s slowly slipping into something good. And back with Team Avatar, the guys are going through this cave they’re trapped in, and they get separated. And they find more about the legend of this Romeo and Juliet cave, except in this version Juliet after Romeo is dead flips shit and almost kills everybody. And the idea is you have to kiss somebody to get through the cave, and Aang and Katara have their first really kind of cute romantic scene I feel that worked. The whole fortuneteller episode I didn’t really like how they executed it, but this actually felt real, and yeah, romance is a small theme in this series, as much as I kind of say it isn’t, but it is, and what’s there is executed well. I know some people want Katara and Zuko, but I hardly care. With love triangles I don’t really care who they end up with, let alone one that the fans are pushing for and you could easily say was nothing. But yeah when they eventually kiss, the screen goes black, and that’s a really nice way of doing it. Especially for a kids show. It showed a romance for the adults, and the kids who don’t really know much can get the idea they found their way through the cave. Ultimately it was another really really great episode. I mean season two is already going really great, and I feel when I look back on which season is my favorite, I feel season two might just be it.
