Your Highness Review

 Your Highness Review
Starring: Danny McBride, James Franco, Natalie Portman
Director: David Gordon Green
Year: 2011

Your Highness was a new movie by guys behind of my favorite comedies, Pineapple Express. It was basically all the weed jokes and punch line comedy that was Pineapple Express, but now it was in a medieval lord of the rings environment. And you’d think it would be a insanely funny comedy. These are the types of movies I want to pull out when I want to make me, and the people around me laugh. But this isn’t really that funny. Don’t get me wrong, there are some really funny moments, but they’re fewer and farther apart than they should be. And at one point the comedy seems a little obnoxious with how vulgar it is. It feels much more forced than a movie like Pineapple Express. But don’t get me wrong, I laughed, and probably did more than your average movie. The characters were good too, for the most part. Danny McBride’s character seems like he’s right up Danny McBride’s ally, and James Franco was good with his part. Natalie Portman was kind of a standard bad ass chick, but she was good. I feel like the bad guy could have been better, and some of the lesser characters too. Like there are weird character personalities, like this gay wizard guy they have to… oh god I don’t even want to explain it. And James Franco’s friends, they weren’t that good. To be honest, one more funny guy rather than giving Danny McBride a sidekick. I’d be fine with Seth Rogen being in this as some character, it would have been good. And even though I like the old English voices they had, (they’d talk very much like a parody of old English, and it made the cursing, and all the dialogue a little more funny) but overall I think it could have been better. The dialogue and lines and punch lines could have all been twice as good, but instead they just sprinkle the advantages of this throughout the movie. But the environment, it looks like some kind of medieval land, it looks good. They added some random fantasy elements, but they were kind of misplaced. Like oh, random minotaur. With bad CGI and weird monsters thrown in at random times, I don’t know if it was needed, especially when they didn’t add many lines. The costumes, they weren’t completely half-assed, so there’s that. But anyway, another good thing is the acting. I like James Franco, he’s one of my favorites, I like Natalie Portman, she’s one of my favorites too. In the end Your Highness is a movie that is in a group of movies I consider really enjoyable, but it’s not as good as the others. It’s an good see once movie, but doesn’t hold much after that. I mean this movie is hated, not many people liked this movie. But it didn’t really bother me with its faults, and I thought it was a pretty good sit through. I liked it, despite knowing why others didn’t.

Your Highness gets a 3/5

Spoilers: I really thought the end where Natalie Portman dipped, she wasn’t coming back. I was like, "oh, she just didn’t want to make out with McBride. But no, she came back. I thought the ending was pretty good because of that. Anyway, minotaur dicks, you’re not going to see that in any other movie.
