The Miserable Mill Review

The Miserable Mill Review
(A series of unfortunate events Book 4)
Author: Lemony Snicket
Year: 2000

We are now nearly one third of the way, and I have to say I am not keeping track of favorites anymore. Before I was keeping track which book so far was the best, and before it was the wide window, but my level of how much I like each book is very close, and I won’t keep track any more cause I have no idea if this one’s my favorite out of the first four. When I’ve finished rereading the series I’ll probably make a top ten list of my favorites, and until then we’ll just see.  Like the other three books we got the kids and Olaf and the kids try to escape Olaf’s treachery, but this time around their guardian is less helpful than ever, and rather than desperate children, they are distressed mill workers. Each book so far has a similar skeleton, but besides that they really aren’t alike. Like the three books before, the book is good, but not great. The dialogue could be improved, and even though the characters are improving, there not deeply moving characters yet. Also like entries two and three, the plot of the series as a whole is going slow. The first book set forth the set up for the series, but books two and three focus more on the books as an individual thing rather than a series. This one does the same, and some characters being introduced later on will reappear rather than never be seen again, and the series’ plot will grow ultimately, but that doesn’t have much to do with this individual book. Another difference is Count Olaf now has a partner, rather than henchmen. Sure one pops up, but he is now partners with somebody, and you’ll have to read it to find out more. Another thing, never before in the series did I feel like there was absolutely nothing good in these lives of these children. There was never such a no bride side, which is ironic since one of the new characters is a optimistic. But as it stands Miserable Mill follows of the roll the series has had of being good, but not great, but with a boarding school on the way, and nine books to go, I’m sure there’s time for that to change.

A Miserable Mill gets a 3/5

Spoilers: Not a lot of spoilers I can think of that I’d like to talk about, but for some reason I really want to see Sir’s face. The more Snicket insists on not revealing, the more I want to know! I might do a character review for Sir as well as the hypnotizing lady. I’d say rest in piece for her character, but I don’t really care. Let’s honor the death of the real victim… Phil’s leg. R.I.P Phil’s leg!
