Episode 4 Review (Pursuit)

 Episode 4 Review (Pursuit)

This episode, this is the part of the series where you realize how much you fucking like Death Note. When that intro music hits from here on out, you are draw, no matter what. It’s an attention grabbing series, one that just sucks you in. In this episode Light at first is just testing on his subjects. He while killing prisoners makes them draw evil signs on the wall, run places, or do things they can’t possibly do. He learns that the Death Note before killing someone will make them do anything in their possibility, and likelihood of doing. He leaves messages for L, making things very confusing. (Fucking with him basically) He then starts operation: First Official Brain Fuck of the Series. He first calls up a hot chick like it’s his business. He then boards a bus with her on their way to a date, and the guy who’s been following him comes along. But then a dude suddenly hijacks the bus. He holds everybody hostage. The guy following Light thinks he can’t be Kira, he’d just kill this guy with heart attack. But Light makes it clear he can’t trust him, as he’s heard about operations where the second hijacker does exactly what he’s doing. To show his trust, Ray shows him his F.B.I. Id. (Your so smart! F.B.I. always acting like they own the place with their badges, well don’t do that with Kira) Light now can kill Ray at any time, and accidentally slips a paper him and his girl were sharing. The hijacker tries picking it up thinking he’s pulling something, and tosses when he sees it’s nothing. But then… HE SEES RYUK! And Ryuk is just doing his demented talking, staring at him with those giant eyes. The Hijacker just tries shooting him, but it does nothing. But Ryuk must follow him as he’s touched a piece of the Death Note. (The paper Light dropped). The man is so scared he runs off the bus, and gets hit by a car. But big reveal, Light wrote pretty much my entire summary in the Death Note. He while killing another victim was able to put a situation in which he has his follower’s name, and he isn’t at all suspect able. That hot chick he was on a date with, yeah just a little part of his master plan. What. A. Boss. See, this put a whole new look on Light’s character. He’s a master planner, and until now although he’s extremely smart, he made mistakes. But now he shows he’s in this to win this. And he just has this mastermind controlling coolness about him, and makes a hell of a villain. (Which yeah, he is. Killing thousands doesn’t make you a saint, even if you are a main character). And watching this is just so intense, and so interesting. I hate it, and think it’s incredibly fucked up, but it’s just like watching a domino effect, except those dominos are human lives. It’s like being that idiot gawking at the site of a car crash as he drives by, but turned into something fun to watch in anime form. And I just love psychological maneuvers in story telling, it makes everything so much better. For instance my favorite Naruto character is Shikamaru, and if you’ve seen the show then you know he fights with his mind. Fights with mind beat fights with brawn any day. And Light is just in the background of this evil onslaught thinking GOTCHA!
