Episode 9 Review (The Strangest Robot)

Episode 9 Review (The Strangest Robot)

This episode starts off with Gohan, but I think this is where Gohan really started to change. He no longer cries in half his scenes (still cries a lot though) and he resembles the old Goku from DragonBall in some ways. It begins with him waking up, then a crocodile creeping in the water like a ninja almost eats him. Then you see the old tiger, and he isn’t friendly at all, and rather than helping Gohan outruns the crocodile in the attempt to eat infant Gohan. But it’s okay! He gets plucked off the ground by a giant eagle and after fighting a dinosaur it drops Gohan in a sinkhole! A more weirder scene in DBZ I’ll admit. But this episode is most well known for what happens after that. Gohan meets a robot in a cave, and the robot is actually a really good character for only being in one episode, and I might even do a review on him. The robot and Gohan have good chemistry, and through this one episode you see as their relationship grows into good friends. He has a tiny bit of back-story, and  holds so much emotion for a simple robot. It doesn’t last long, and soon as a result of a cave in the robot is forced to give his life in order to save Gohan. But still I think the robot despite his screen time was a good character, and since you have to take screen time into effect for characters, I would say he does a nice job. Gohan and the robot’s final talk was actually really emotional for what it was, and it gave Gohan another dose of reality. And he still cries, but this time he’s smiling as he does it, which makes his character even better from the relationship too. Also, these kind of episodes from season 1 I don’t know why, but I feel I can just watch them over and over again, and I feel this one episode gets the long lasting badge cause I do feel I could watch it over and over and still be entertained. Another thing I’d like to mention is I don’t what it is, but for some reason Gohan gets real upset when a robot dies. You’ll see that later and whenever a robot dies it seems Gohan just gets real emotional. As a whole this wasn’t a great episode, but it held great moments, and episodes like this make me feel better when I look back on DBZ as a whole, so even though it’s only getting a seven out of ten, it’s worth more.

DBZ: Episode 9 (The Strangest Robot) gets a 3/5
