Episode 32 Review (The Serpent’s Pass)

Episode 32 Review (The Serpent’s Pass)

One little bounce down and it shoots right back up. At this point in the second season it’s so much more likeable, and going so smoothly, it just really passes season one by far. But let’s get what happens down first. The team runs into these people on their way to Ba Sing Se, and they run into some people. And their two choices are dark path that has the words Abandon Hope near the beginning, or take a nice little boat… they decide to take the boat obviously. And they boat people are dicks. They aren’t letting the Cabbage Guy bring HIS CABBAGES and being a dick to this family who loss their passes. And even though Toph was able to rich girl her way into getting on the boat, they’re dedicated to this family, and go with them through the pass. And Suki also in this episode, a little forcefully, but I bought it. She was helping people get to Ba Sing Se with the Kyoshi Warriors, and decided to tag along with the Gaang. So they go down the Serpent’s Pass and they get across in a really entertaining way. They have to use a lot a bending, a giant sea monster shows up, and they have to battle it. You see Katara water surfing with her feet, Toph having to do things out of her element, it was really entertaining. The little joke with Toph and Sokka or I guess Suki was good, it was all good. Then when they reach land, big surprise, the baby comes to the pregnant lady. (never in media is there a pregnant lady who doesn’t have the baby) And they name the kid Hope. And the whole time Aang had been in this slump over Appa, and sad about the way he acted, and thought maybe having hope would make things worse. So this was good, I thought it was a nice way of doing it. If it was just a child birth and Aang like, "Oh this baby’s life has shown me the life!” then I’d be more skeptical, but no, the baby being named Hope kind of changed all of that for me. Good idea. And during all this time Zuko is on a boat to Ba Sing Se, he meets up with Jet who finally appears again. (and apparently his henchmen, and hench girl apparently) And yeah, they steal some food from the captain, mostly just setting things up. It’s cool seeing Jet again, I like him. Also this episode handled a lot of relationship stuff. There was more Aang and Katara, more Suki and Sokka, more… Jet and Zuko? Well I guess, but not that kind of relationship, more like a bad ass duo. But everyone else gets love romance crap. And yeah, it got pretty cheesy at some points. Not in that, "Oh how adorable way.” But it didn’t hold the episode back, and I felt maybe this every often is needed. And teaseling a Sokka and Toph relationship for no reason isn’t necessary… but it was a great joke, so I give it that. Anyway, great episode, a lot happened. And the end with the drill, God I got goosebumps. Loved the episode though.
