Episode 8 Review (The Oath Of Pain)

Episode 8 Review (The Oath Of Pain)

So basically at the beginning of this episode it recaps what happened last time. Then we get a little more clone game as the other Zabuza was a clone, and gets the upper hand on Kakashi. He kicks him into the water, then easily uses a technique to trap him in a prism, but only by keep right next to him. He tries to deal with the others, but in order for that he forms a clone… it’s kind of sad that a whole Genin team looks fearfully up at a clone. Zabuza actually has a moment with good writing, as he addresses the others by saying wearing a headband doesn’t make you a ninja. By becoming a real fighter who is between life and death constantly until they are unfazed by it may be a ninja. That made the others look like such kids, and you can tell they’re weakling children compared to Zabuza, which helps his character. So the group basically is given the choice to run away or fight, but Sasuke knows the only chance of living is to rescue Kakashi, so he takes on the clone. He gets thrown around, and the music playing during the scene really is intense. Naruto even remembers his little blood oath and tries to take him on, only to get his ass kicked back to. But the point is that he remembers his blood oath and stand by it, which makes him grow up just a little bit more, and makes him not the coward who ran away. And a dose of symbolism as he actually grabbed the headband by Zabuza to wear it, to show he really deserves to be a ninja. But Naruto after that show of determination basically forms a plan. He throws a team of Shadow Clones at Zabuza, then as they’re all thrown off Naruto throws Sasuke a big Shadow Shuriken (A really bad ass four sides throwing weapon) and he throws it at the real Zabuza who catches it, but a second one emerges due to a jutsu, but Zabuza jumps over it. But ha! It was Naruto and the episode ends as a kunai knife looks ready to free Kakashi. This was the first time strategy was used in Naruto besides the simple substitution or clone jutsu. This was a really fun episode to watch and is much more than simple action. It gets a high seven for me, and it gives Naruto and Zabuza a lot more character. I’d been cool if Sakura had done something to help, or at least look useful. Also I’d like a little more to make a great episode, but for now there hasn’t been a bad episode yet, and there doesn’t look to be one soon.
