Episode 3 Review (Dealings)

 Episode 3 Review (Dealings)

And so the adventures of the psycho high school student and the man with a number for a name continues. L is onto that Kira is a student, he can gather than by telling the times of which the criminals are dying, as they always die out of school hours. But Light is a step ahead, and he has access to police records, as his dad is revealed to be the head of police. Oh the irony. But Light knows this, and fires a blast at L by suddenly changing the times of death in which the victims die, making it seem like he’s not a student. Or, maybe he’s challenging L’s idea. L after this suspects that the change happened because Kira has police records (which he does) and he starts suspecting the police officers, and their families. But Light wants this, as he’ll come one step closer to L, and if he suspects the police, the police will lose their trust with him sure enough. And as police members are starting to leave the case in fear, and Light has a strange follower tracking him, it seems things are getting more and more interesting. And then Ryuk does something really disturbingly creepy. He tells Light the two differences between a god of death, and a human who uses a Death Note. One, the god of death after using the note, gains the lost years of a person. If a person was forty was written down, Ryuk would be twenty years older by cutting his life. And so Ryuk is immortal as long as he doesn’t slack off. Then he reveals the second thing, his eyes. He says Shinigami’s have eyes that tell the life span and real name of whoever they look at, and so he can just look at a person and they’d die. But the flipside is a Shinigami can make a deal with whoever touched their Death Note in the human world, and grant them Shinigami eyes, but for the cost of half their life span. The episode ends with Ryuk making the deal to Light, meaning trouble for his little stalker. And this episode took a lot of turns, and like the first time I watched Death Note just left a bombardment in my brain. Even if it is kind of obvious stuff, like I think the police could tell it was a student if people only died outside of school hours, but it’s executed in such a way it really has no way around it. At this point L is a big mystery, and I loved Ryuk during the early episodes, because he was my favorite character for awhile. I felt like for awhile this whole series was just his idea, and he planned everything, and maybe he was gaining something out of it. I expected at any moment for Ryuk to flip Light’s world and betray him, and show how he was the real mastermind behind everything. And just look at him! I mean… tell me that doesn’t look like a scary ass dude.

Death Note Episode 3 (Dealings) gets a 5/5
