APPA!!!! Yes, we finally know what has happened to Appa, and yeah, it’s an episode all right. It goes parallel to everything that has happened, and plus Appa gets his own episode. And to sum it all up, a lot of shit. He has to escape a bunch of mean sandbenders, gets whipped around in a circus, escapes the circus, defends himself, eats cactus, all kinds of shit. Then he runs into this Guru guy who uses a deep connection in him to tell him where Aang is. But just before Appa gets to Aang, evil illuminati bald guy steps in and takes him away, and we learn where that footprint came. And yeah, this was a really good episode. It’s very dark, and you really feel the pain Appa is in. And sometimes seeing animals hurt is worse than humans. Animals always feel so innocent, and they sort of should, as they don’t really know better. And when you see them getting hurt for no reason, it feels all the worse. And Appa just takes this to the point he can’t trust anyone. At one point he runs into Suki and the Kyoshi warriors, who are attacked by Azula, and it had a good fight. Just seeing Appa groomed after all that was a relief. And this did make Appa’s character a lot better. You see him move a lot more, and you see him function. He’s moving a lot more, and he’s standing from time to time, even wrestling with this other animal. And I never said this before, but I love the way Appa flies. You really feel the weight of him moving, and if giant buffalos could fly, I feel that’s how they would move. Anyway, I thought this was a really good episode, I like Appa getting attention. A little on the weak side just because it didn’t feel like as much stuff happened, but I guess it did. Cool episode idea, and a good commentary on animal violence and things like that.
