Episode 5 Review (Tactics)

 Episode 5 Review (Tactics)

Our episode begins with Ray, and his newly introduced girlfriend/fiancé (I’m not really sure which). Apparently she’s a former FBI agent, but that’s irrelevant because Ray came to Japan just to meet her parents, and she promised not to interfere in the Kira case. She even seemed to suspect someone on the bus of being Kira, as it was so suspicious. (She is obviously a much better detective) But then Light does the biggest gasp ever. He’s just hanging out at a bus station, and then suddenly Ray walks by, and he sneaks up behind him like, "Hi I’m Kira, turn around and I’ll kill you.” Yeah, he goes in weaponless (unless you count the Death Note) and basically makes Ray his bitch. He makes him get on a bus, starts taking info out of his laptop and taking notes, then makes it available on the bus, and makes him walk out. Now Kira can kill every F.B.I. agent, and who is up first. Ray. Moments after steeping out of the bus, he dies of a heart attack. But what is the last thing he sees? He looks back at the bus, and realizes as he sees Light there, he is Kira. That to me is one of the most memorable scenes, and it’s so twisted, and no actual character to this point died that was important, and the fact that Kira killed somebody perfectly innocent really shows how far he’s taking this. Then we hear as L is being told all the F.B.I. agents have been killed, and hears as the entire task force is suspicious of him, and thinks he’s basically a total piece of shit. This has been  compared to a chess game, and this is the part where you just lost your most important piece to a pawn. But now Light’s dad is the chief of the Kira investigation, and as this happens, everyone gets so scared leaving the case, only five people are left. (There was six, but another dude chickened out. Pussy!) And so the team is finally told by L they can meet in person, to establish that trust. The episode ends with L’s door just being opened. All in all, that part with Ray was enough for this to be a great episode. And with all this other shit going on, it just feels so intense. And since I’m not used to short anime, the first time I saw this it was like an adrenaline shot of gasps and logical thinking. An elite, and a near ten, easily.

Death Note Episode 5 (Tactics) gets a 5/5
