Episode 52 Review (Ebisu Returns: Naruto’s Toughest Trainer Yet!)

Episode fifty-two is almost completely featuring Naruto and Ebisu. First Ebisu challenges Naruto to a game of chase, and it’s actually pretty cool to see Naruto running around the leaf village. With how long we’ve been stuck in forests and towers it’s nice to finally come back to the colorful leaf village and finally have a non dramatic episode that we haven’t had in awhile. Ebisu and Naruto aren’t exactly funny, but it works for one episode. Ebisu also breaks down how Naruto’s chakra works, and how it’s inferior to his teammates. But then Naruto begins his training, and Ebisu brings him to the hot springs where he says he’s going to teach him to walk on water. It’s a lot like the tree climbing like before, but the ground is really unstable. But the part where you can’t afford to fail is the hot springs are obviously hot. But Naruto is quickly getting it within minutes, and somewhat able to stand on the water. Ebisu reflects realizing he was wrong about Naruto. And the best part about this he learns that Naruto is much more than a Demon Fox, and that’s important to his character that his power is beyond that. Then Ebisu spots a man let’s just say doing some mischievous things. He tries to stop him, but he was like HELL NO! And then he summons a toad and slams him into the ground…! Yeah, a toad. First the talking turtles with Guy, now a toad. Anyway that’s where our episode ends, and let’s not bullshit this person is Jiraiya. Jiraiya is a really great character and this was his first appearance, which is really big. I don’t like how they kind of made it seem like Ebisu and Naruto were getting somewhere, then did a switch, but did we really want Ebisu? In the end the episode works, and I like it. It’s good to finally see some colorful images in the Leaf Village, and we got to see Jiraiya for the first time, which is the most important thing.
