Blazin' gets a 2/5
All right, let’s make this a point A to point B review where we go step by step with the song, shall we? First, the beat starts, and let’s start with it. It’s boring, again. It’s Save Me, I’m the Best, Here I Am, Right Thru Me, Fly, even Moment 4 Life, again. It’s a simple soft technoish beat that isn’t much. The chorus hits, and she says Blazin’ a couple times. She says she’s blazin’ and she feels like she’s Blain.’ So, which is it? Is she Blazin or just feel like she is? Whatever, nitpicking. And then, I said "Wow,” I think for the first time during this album. It’s a pretty fast lyric, nothing special, and she actually says some good points. And when you rap fast, then you’re getting a slight pass if your words are stupid, because you’re cleverly putting them together, but Nicki is usually doing that slow, when your song is suppose to have depth. But no she goes fast, and with some good lines, and it’s arguably the best verse on the album. Doesn’t really fit on this song, but still. And then… she stops. Not continuing to go on her verse, she cuts that shit out mid-way, and starts going slow again. The moment I knew it was downhill when she said, "Where my dogs at--Randy.” And yeah… even the words get worse. The lyrics get worse when we’re hearing them fully exposed, yes makes lots of sense. And then there is annoying as "Ahh ahaha,” thing that… I don’t know where to being. It’s not like a dumb sound affect like the other songs, it’s just her making the most annoying as laugh ever. She continues her verse, and she doesn’t save it. It continues. Then the chorus hits, and yes, Blazin’ is said a lot. And no, it’s not catchy in the slightest. It hurt my ears a little. Then Kanye hits. And why is Nicki grabbing these big name rappers? I mean, I’m sure she was a fan who just wanted them to throw a verse on her album, but Kanye and Eminem aren’t even on songs with music videos. And at least with Eminem he fit the Roman’s Revenge. Oh, I’m going to make my like fifth slow techno-ish song with not much lyrics. Sure Kanye isn’t far off, but when you hear this beat, you don’t think, "Oh, Kanye totally should have been on this!” No, it doesn’t fit him at all, and he seems to kind of tip-toeing around how he should rap the weird chorus to match a flow he’s familiar with. He seems half tempted to sing or do the weird half rapping Nicki was doing earlier. As for his lyrics, they aren’t bad. They’re just a couple okay metaphors. And although this song doesn’t fit him, he seems to try and make it fit like an oversized glove. It worked, but it’s not for him. Best part of the song, but not saving it many spots up. But without him it’d be a three. Not that he’s awesome or anything, but less time on Nicki is better. And the less Blazin’s I have to hear the better. Like literally, at least a hundred times she says it, it gets annoying. They have to kind of change how she says it to make it less repetitive towards the end, and it doesn’t help. And what is the theme? Some weird flying thing? No, it doesn’t work. This feel more like I was asleep on airplane than I’m flying through the sky. And yeah, just more album filler I guess. I have no idea what Kanye is doing on it, and Nicki despite it being her song seems even more distant than Kanye. And yeah, that one part of her verse and Kanye being passable isn’t enough to even be average.
