Episode 24 Review (The Swamp)

So the team is riding over a swamp when it starts to call to him. But since going into an ominous swamp is a stupid ass idea, they decided not to enter. However a big tornado scatters them regardless. But soon they find the forest is really strange and full of monsters, and they’re pulled apart. And each sees somebody. Katara sees her dead mom, Sokka sees the princess from the last season, and Aang sees somebody he doesn’t know. (It’s his future Earthbending teacher Toph) Good foreshadowing there. Anyway they run into this giant monster that actually is a guy just a dude waterbending. And meanwhile Appa and Momo are busy trying not to get eaten by these other redneck swamp waterbenders. And the guy after he knows he’s the Avatar doesn’t care they were cutting the forest (the reason he attacked them) and goes on with his philosophy with how everything is one, and of course Sokka hates that philosophy ‘cause he’s all about that science. And so they leave knowing their lesson and everything going good with that sense of philosophy and what the fuck just happened instilled in their brain. Meanwhile Zuko and Iroh are not taking poverty well, or at least Zuko isn’t. Iroh is getting a little too fond of begging, and so when Zuko sees a familiar mask at a stand, it’s time for the Blue Spirit to come back! Anyway, this is another great episode, and when I left I thought I’d give it a nine. But after just thinking of how well it was from the ones so far, it’s a slightly step down, so a big eight from me. It’s a really good episode of weird is your thing, and it had more comedic moments. It really felt like how Team Avatar felt, creeped out, weirded out, uncomfortable, but it was kind of worth it in the end… or at least everyone except Sokka and those on the team who were almost a snack. But a very interesting episode nonetheless.
