Episode 33 Review (Hero In The Shadows)

And yes our hero casts a very large shadow indeed. Our episode picks up right where the last one leaves off, with Goku screaming for his life. Again I’m just going to say, it’s hard hearing the hero scream like a little girl. By now Gohan and Krillen arrive on the scene, and even say hi to Yajirobe on their way out. Gohan distracts Vegeta while Krillen prepares the Destructo Disc that’s going to be used to cut Vegeta’s tail. But of course Krillen misses, and Vegeta had known he was there the whole time. But just before Vegeta crushes Goku to death, a very unexpected thing happens. Yajirobe, who had just been seen running from the scene is shown cutting Vegeta’s tail. That was probably the moment of Yajirobe’s fighting career. Vegeta slowly falls back into his normal form, and without a tail or scouter he for the first time looks like the Vegeta we’ll be getting used to. He’s filled with rage, and still has enough strength to kick ass, so with only a kid, a midget, a broken hero, and obese man to fight him the Earth still looks pretty screwed. He beat Krillen in pretty much one kick and starts beating up Gohan. He crushes his skull and tosses him aside next Goku. Goku after a nice little speech tells Gohan to fight back. Father and son reach each other’s hands but of course Vegeta stops it. He crushes Goku’s stomach in and say’s being a fiend is like being a photographer, you have to wait for the right moment.” That was probably next to killing Nappa as one of Vegeta’s most villainous and twisted moments. But Gohan emerges and begins to fight Vegeta. Through his inner power he is able to actually fight with Vegeta for awhile, and even hurt him. Meanwhile Goku calls over Krillen and tells him he can spare some energy, the energy he collected from the Spirit Bomb earlier. Most of it was scattered, but it’s still enough to take down Vegeta. This really feels like it’s falling into place, and you really feel like after all that, maybe they can actually beat Vegeta. This is as big as it gets, and we’re approaching the climax of our first saga. I mean in the end Vegeta won the battle over Goku I think. Even in his normal form and after losing the Galick Gun vs. Kamehameha he still was better, but once he turned Great Ape it was done. But that’s something about Goku, somehow even when everything is down, he somehow manages to pull through with the help of his friends because he’s like the tool of good to overcome the bad. Even now, he is practically at death’s door, and he is able to help pull through, and until now he’s always overcome, but you’ll have to keep reading in order to find out if he does.
