Since in my top ten movie annoying movie trends, spoof movies made it, plus the only spoof movie I’ve reviewed getting a 2, you can guess I’m not a big fan of these movies. That being said, this movie had all the materials to being good. The exorcism and Paranormal Activity movies seem like easy movies to spoof. But like Vampires Suck, just ‘cause it seems they can’t fuck up a parody of it, doesn’t mean they won’t. I’ll get to that later, but they did have a lot of good materials here. The first person style filming was a good excuse to jump parts for comedy, and not to mention they actually got a cast of pretty funny people. But there’s usually one problem that’s pretty apparent in these movies. They aren’t really spoofing anything. No movie is perfect, and if isn’t perfect there’s room to make fun of it. And in movies, some things under a different look can make the ultimate hero look like a complete idiot. And these spoof movies don’t take those advantages and areas where there could be comedic gold. They usually stray from making fun of the story, and do as much hitting the character with random objects, fart jokes, terribly executed jokes, and things that have nothing to do with the films. And for this movie, I’m actually glad they strayed away from the paranormal or exorcism movies, because the scenes that they’re taking from the other movies are usually the most terrible. The movie is mostly a jumble of funny things that could of have happened in an exorcism or paranormal activity movie. In that aspect, I like that they aren’t going detailed, they’re putting stereotypical black comedy on top of an altered version of Paranormal Activity. In that aspect, it doesn’t completely suck. I mean it’s hard to fuck up, so that’s one thing. But the script is still not very funny, and besides rare moments where they get a chuckle, they almost seem like jokes that were being set up, but the one-liner or purpose was ripped out or something. Is there still fart jokes and people hitting things randomly? Yep, but it’s not as bad as I thought it would be. It didn’t feel like a rated R movie for a twelve year old, so I’m thankful for that. But it feels really kind of pointless to watch. You’re aren’t laughing, you aren’t really being entertained, and there’s not much to like about it. And I’m sure there’s a thirteen year old out there that loves this movie, but I feel unlike a movie like Disaster Movie or Superhero Movie, he might actually still like it after he grows some brains. But Is this better than most shitty spoof movies lately? Yeah, this is better than a lot of them, but still not good. I like things like when he tried actually leaving the house the second he knew there was a ghost in it, and I do feel like the actors saved the shitty script from being so immature. Nick Swardson, Marlon Wayans, and every other person in this cast I didn’t think like they sucked and never acted like a day in there life. They didn’t let the shitty script ruin the movie, and I like that. But usually a comedy that didn’t make me laugh that much, didn’t have very good characters, but didn’t annoy me or make me hate it, that usually would be average. But this has that, and on top of that they have shitty far jokes, typical spoof movie bullshit, and for some reason Saints Row the Third needs to advertised on every god damn wall for some reason. And I don’t hate the movie, those are usually three out of ten and downwards. This, it’s an eh, but and eh that also annoyed me a little. The rare chuckle jokes saved it from a three, and the poor execution avoided it from being average.
