Director: John Lasseter

Cars is that one Pixar movie that I think you are just as likely to love as you are to hate. And I ended up loving it. And I didn’t know if I would going in just now. I saw it once a while ago, and considering it’s a approaching a decade long in a couple years, I could have been pretty young. But I finally got to see again, and I actually really enjoyed it. The world I think is that one part where it might be hard to get into. Where if you watch it in reviewer mode, and you’re the person who doesn’t let themselves get sucked into a movie, you might not enjoy it. If you are, like me, you probably will. And the world of cars actually is pretty good to look at, and they actually did look like they were having fun making these cars based off of real ones, and giving them personalities from there. And the characters are actually pretty interesting. I especially liked some of the little side characters like the European one, the hippie one, they’re all really great. I think a lot of people thought that Larry the Cable Guy as a car was setting up to be a Jar Jar Binks, and a lot people still think he was one, but he’s not in it very long for a secondary character. He’s mostly a plot device, and actually has some comical and one more dramatic scenes. The world itself was also really interesting. From the big race tracks to the town, it’s fun to look at. And I’d say that at times I wanted something new, but right when I said that they went to new places. If there was anything I didn’t like, I felt like maybe I knew what to expect a little too much. I just knew the lesson he’d learn, and all to well what he’d go through to get there. However in the big final race, I really didn’t know who was going to win. And there’s not a whole lot I can say about this movie, it’s a pretty simple Pixar film. It hits all the right places, or at least I thought so. Do I think this was capitalizing on toys, or that the sequel I don’t even want to see was a big overdone marketing tool? Yes, but that doesn’t deny the quality of the movie. It’s a really fun and bright movie. It’s not really that funny, but I never really find many Pixar movies to be. It’s more just a childish happiness in every movie, and I felt that with this. Although I did crack the occasional smile as well. And stay for the credits, that’s probably the best part of the movie, because they stuffed some fun Easter eggs and good closure for the world in it. Do I think this is one of the best Pixar movies ever? No, but I don’t think it was a step backwards in the slightest. It’s a really fun easy to watch movie, and I could see it every couple of years, or just whenever I feel like running through some Disney movies. The characters, wit, fun, it was all there, and certainly didn’t drop the ball in any category that I saw. It’s a simply really good movie.

Cars gets a 4/5

Spoilers: Aside from maybe the end race how I thought it was cool he drove backward and still came in last place, I don’t got much. Except maybe that Easter egg in the credits. “There using the same guy for voices in all of these movies! What kind of production is this!?” Oh, and I like how he still had another trick up his sleeve and all that. Very good stuff.
