The Walking Dead several months ago blew me away. It was
easily the best game of 2012 that I played so far. It’s story took so many
leaps and bounds in a way I hadn’t seen before. And I’ll say, the entire story
hasn’t finished at the time of this review. In fact the second episode of
season 2 came out today, and I’ll be looking forward to that. But I thought I’d
go back and play each episode through, and get a nice review in. And I just finished
episode 1, and it was pretty awesome. This is the type of game that the first
experience just captures you, and it blows you away. But unlike maybe Mass
Effect games, I didn’t find replaying this as awesome. Emphasis on as. It was
still pretty fucking awesome, but again, that first time was the beginning of
greatness. But the game is simple, point and click, make choices, etc. That’s
about it. But to me a game is whatever you can do with a controller. And when
games make something innovative with just pressing buttons besides the standard
hit button, jump button, or whatever, I enjoy it even more. But anyway, for a
quick synopsis of this episode, it begins. The zombie apocalypse starts, as it
has so many times. You are Lee, a criminal in the back of the car. After a
crash, zombie fight, and injury to the leg, you find a house for help. You find
a walkie-talkie, and on the other line is Clementine, the girl who lives there.
You suddenly take care of her, and from there, I think the story should be a big
surprise. Don’t get me wrong, these will be spoiler filled, but from here on
out, if you haven’t played this game yet, go and fucking do it. You won’t
forget it. Now, for more of the specific things in the game. I remember the
first time I made the decision to lie, and I told the truth. And I felt really
good about myself. But later, I accidentally lied. That damn time, I lied, and
he hated me more. If that ever comes back I’ll be screwed. But anyway, this
time I told the truth, and felt a little less guilty getting his son killed.
But this round Kenny is going to be like my best friend. Last time it was a
little rocky. Also, they really don’t hold much back for a first episode. You
already got the majority of Lee’s back-story, and practically the whole thing
if you ask certain questions. And even if you don’t, just the scenes with his
zombie brother, the picture, and using his dad’s cane to hold the door really
show how bad things are for him. And I almost feel how I would imagine Lee
would, and that’s if Clementine weren’t there, he’d be a wreck. But he holds
together. And also, both times I chose to let the woman shoot herself. Last
time I thought it was the bite, but even if so, I feel like that’s her best way
out. Maybe I shouldn’t have just to see what happens, but I’m pretty okay
either way. By the way that scene where you take the zombies out one by one,
very bad ass. And then there is the big, who did you save question. And yes,
this time I saved Carly, and I’m excited to see where that goes. Also seeing
Doug go so early on was just so sad! L But anyway, fuck
Larry, that’s twice he’s hit me. But for a first episode, this is really solid,
and hits every good mark.
