Sonic Adventure 2: Battle Review

 Sonic Adventure 2: Battle Review
Genre: Platformer
Developer: Sonic Team (USA)
System I played on: Gamecube
Year: 2002

Oh, the memories. My introduction into the Sonic series I thought was a good one, even though it had it’s problems. Now the story in this game uses an interesting way of performing it. From the beginning you can do good and evil, and if you beat both storylines you unlock the final bit. Both storylines are about as long as the other, and neither really outdoes the other, but it’s nice when I’m a frustrated child, and I’m stuck on a game, and I can still progress forward by simply changing sides. The stories are both pretty good, but if you can beat the final bit, the ending is so worth it, and the music during the final boss proves that music, not just video game music needs to be integrated into games. P.S. final boss kicks all sorts of ass, and is worth getting through the first part of final boss, which is challenging, and kicked my ass. But the game-play has three sections, just like the story. But unlike the story, these sections were very different on how much better they were. The Tails-Eggman parts are just a chore, and have no replay value, unless tails is behind the wheel of a kart racing section. But Eggman had his music, so I can’t diss him. (I am the Eggman, it’s what I am, I am the Eggman!) Gets me every fuckin’ time. But don’t be confused, the Tails Eggman sections still suck. The Knuckles and Rouge sections were pretty good, but it determined on the level. Like all the levels on the game, I thought the levels got worse in time, but I can’t hate these levels, as they added variety and fun to the game. Even if the levels got a bit worse in time, the bosses didn't  so don‘t think it‘ll just get more and more terrible as the game progresses. But then there are the Sonic and Shadow missions, which are really nice. Especially City Escape! God I can’t even imagine how many times I’ve played that level over the years. Seriously, it’s awesome… even if it’s the first level. But there are other things besides that, the choa system in this is so amazing! You want to make a choa that looks like Sonic? Go right the on ahead, he’ll be sweet. Want to make a evil choa that swims in a pool of blood?… not that you should, but you can! The choa system is a game on it’s own, and my choa kicks ass, and does front flips, and I love him. Honestly, any other Sonic game that has a choa system I’m always like, "oh, not as good as sonic adventure 2 battle, so fuck off.” So give it a chance, and don’t wake the choas up, or otherwise they go retarded. But on the bad side, the game runs on a bit, some levels are cheap, Tails missions suck, and Tails himself is annoying. Sorry. But I have to say, Shadow is a true bad ass. This is one of the reasons why I like Shadow more than Sonic. Shadow simply just kicks ass! But in the end, this game doesn’t have a lot of bad, it just doesn’t have a lot of good. Good characters, a fair story, mixed levels, make for a controversial game, but I can’t let my nostalgia force in my rating, even if I want to. Then again its my opinion, so it still probably seeped in just a bit.

Post Review: This was literally the first game I reviewed. Then when I came back and did it again for the website (since I didn't have the old review any more) I thought it would be fine, it wasn't. My review was sloppy, and wasn't in the style of my reviews now. It was less about my personal times and moments with the game, and more how well it was. On a reviewer with a nose turned up who scales on how well it is, sure it gets a 6. (What I first gave it when I reviewed on a scale of 1 to 10. But now with all the changes, i've changed it to how I feel about it now.

Sonic Adventure 2: Battle gets a 4/5

Spoilers: As I have played this game ever since my grandmother (God Bless Her) gave it to either me or my brother for a birthday, (I can’t really remember who’s it was, probably my brother’s) I have played it a good amount over the years. In this, I hated and loved parts. I hate the crazy fucking final two missions with Sonic! When I go through the levels, I try to make good time, and good points. THAT’S KIND OF HARD WHEN YOU CAN”T STAY ON THE LEVEL PATH! Also, why were some characters like the President only in one scene? And the humans in this game look weird, it’s like they don’t fit in this universe. But onto positive. In the chao garden you must make a angel chao, and a dark chao to get both new gardens. I thought this was a brilliant idea, and I can’t replay this game without delving into the choas, as they are usually why I come back. Also, when I fought the big ass "ultimate life form prototype” in the sky, to that fucking song, as I super Shadow and Sonic, I have to say that’s one of those gaming memories that I will always remember.
