Episode 30 Review (The Library)

Avatar: The Last Airbender Episode 30 Review (The Library)

This one is always a memorable episode. I remember watching this one as a kid, and thinking it was so cool. Anyway, everyone is going on little vacations, and because things have changed in the last hundred years for Aang, he recommends a place for Katara that is actually a terrible town. But they meet a guy there, and he knows a library that will give them info on the fire nation. And they all go, and they find it buried. So everyone but Toph and Appa go inside. (Appa is huge, and Toph can’t read, so there’s no point) And yeah, the library is one of the coolest locations in this show period. A giant owl walks out of nowhere, and the owl being the animal of knowledge, and the symbol of Athena, I love that it was an owl. And the owl and processor are both really cool characters, but we’ll get back to that. The owl asks for some knowledge, for them not to abuse his knowledge, and that he basically is adding a giant wall on what they do. So the guys go searching in the library, and Sokka is kind of not even giving a shit. He quickly finds out that a solar eclipse is happening, and later finds out that it will happen before the comet arrives. And yeah, the owl is pissed. They abused the knowledge, and finds it disgusting the only time people come in for knowledge is when people need to use it as a weapon. And yeah, there is a really conflicting moral there. Where Sokka is abusing it, the professor is the opposite. Where one party left the library abusing the knowledge, he stayed. And during this, the place is falling apart about to sink. And Toph keeps it up, but then these sandbenders come out of nowhere and start taking Appa. And she has to let them, otherwise they’ll die. And they get out, and Appa is taken. And overall, I will tell you ever reason why I loved the episode. The awesome moral of knowledge, and how it was so well balanced. The owl, he was amazing, and a better villain than Ozai. Not Azula, but at least Ozai. The Professor was a really cool character also. He had a cool attitude and a good end. Also, I like how it brought past and future. There was this part about Zhao, and he referenced something he used to do in the past. This was how he knew about the Moon Spirit, this library. As for future, well, there is a drawing of a Lion Turtle that Aang recognizes, and it’s a pretty important animal later. And yeah, this episode just got better after you watched the series. It holds such a unique spot, and I really loved it. A light nine for me. But yeah, about as good as it could have been, and such a good idea.
