Episode 46 Review (The Avatar and the Fire Lord)

Adult Sozin and Roku Episode 46 (The Avatar and the Fire Lord) Review

So, in this episode we see the great back-story between Roku, and Sozin, who is also explained. Yeah, he didn’t just vanish as the opening said, he melted in lava! Anyway, quick summary, this is a back-story episode one hundred percent. They just jump into it, and it shows everything. Roku and Sozin used to be friends, chase girls, and all that good fire nation crap. And seeing the old world before Aang is cool. Then Roku is revealed to be the Avatar, and he goes around the world training. And we get to see a lot of cool bending. Avatar bending. Then when he gets back, his old friend is Fire Lord, and he’s shady. He brings the idea of turning on the world to Roku, but Roku won’t have it. So Sozin does it in secrecy. Then years later Roku’s home is attacked by a volcano. Roku saves the town, and Sozin even comes to help despite you know, trying to take over the world at one point and ending the friendship between the two. Then Roku is suffering from the volcano fumes and heat, and falls over. Despite Roku saving him, Sozin leaves him to dies, and takes over the world, and all that. And then it goes to Aang being born, and we sign off very nice. Oh wait, no we don’t. Why? Because Zuko learns he’s the great grandson of both Sozin and Roku… FUCK. Yeah, you don’t see that coming ever. Yes, he discovers this story for himself, similar to the Storm where Aang and Zuko have parallel storylines, but his ends with Iroh finally talking to him. And what I love most about this is it shows Zuko’s two paths. One for each of his great grandfather. And he’s the bridge between something that used to be really special. And I think Iroh finally talking to him showed him he has the power to go down either road, choosing evil Sozin way, or benevolent Roku way. Also, another thing to talk about, Roku kicked ass. Yeah, he became way better after this. I also loved seeing him go Avatar State because it looks like he can go in and out like Korra. And yeah, he just destroyed stuff, and it was cool. Anyway, great episode. We really got that back-story we needed, and learned a lot about maybe one of the most important bullet points of the series.
