Episode 50 Review (Fifth Gate: A Splendid Ninja Is Born!)

Yes, fifty down! Still hundreds to go, but we’re making progress, right? RIGHT! Okay, for the fiftieth review of Naruto, we wrap up the Lee vs. Gaara trilogy episodes. Lee is in the third gate, and he just demolishes Gaara, and I mean demolish. Gaara is on the ground with a cracked body, and Lee falls coming out of it. Then Gaara almost out of panic goes for Lee, and crushes his arms and legs. After that Lee is far past defeated, and then Guy stops the match, winning by disqualification. But what Lee does after that is what is really just sad. He stands with a useless arm and leg after coming out of the third gate, while losing consciousness. He’s at one point standing while not conscious. That’s some one-hundred percent for you. Then after talking with the medical people, we learn Lee won’t ever be able to fight again. Then it’s a montage of Lee, and it’s really sad. Then Gaara just walks it off like it’s another day in the serial murderer’s office. There’s some more touching stuff, and a part with Naruto and Kakashi that was pretty cool. But then our episode ends with the last two shinobi, (Choji and sound man who realizes he’s just a pawn) and the episode ends there. This is obviously a very sad and emotional episode, and Lee after doing all that won’t become a ninja, but worse won’t be able to even fight again! That’s a bitch slap of unfairness in the face of the underdog who just wanted to a splendid ninja. In the end I was about to give it an eight for being just shy of a nine, but this is one of those elite episodes, and deserves a nine! It’s a fantastic episode, and somehow Lee went from really quirky weird dude, to bad ass we feel sympathetic for as he’s being taken away by the doctors. It’s sad, and just makes you wonder who the fuck can stop Gaara?
