Oh, look at that, another song I don’t hate. For those who’ve read my Check It out review, that was the first song on this album that actually got above average. But here we are again, with a song I kind of enjoy. Kind of, for some reason I keep finding traces of shit even in the good Nicki songs. (Except in songs like Kanye West’s Monster, and B.o.B’s Out of My Mind, she gets away with those) But anyway, how is this song? Well Fly from mostly what I’ve gathered from listening is an uplifting song in which there again isn’t really a FUCKING POINT, but it does have some positive energy, and calming instrumental, and Rihanna coming in for the hook. As far as Rihanna goes, if you expect my opinion of her now, sorry but I don’t really have one. I haven’t even done any pop reviews, (although I do listen to all types of music, I’m not just listening to rap for those who were wondering) and even though Rihanna is kind of in the rap music circle with how many artists she features on, I never really formed an opinion. It’s either, good, okay, kind of bad, or complete shit. It’s a little too everywhere for me to decide until I get a review, and this song describes that perfectly. She finds every uplifting words that rhymes with Fly in the English dictionary, and gets the fuck out. And to be honest, that’s usually how I like my pop artists featuring in my rap songs. I like them slapped on the hook, sprinkled a couple words in, and then THEY’RE GONE. She is pretty much how I would describe the rest of the song. Not really much but a nice energy. So that’s as far as that goes. As for Nicki, she’s actually not annoying. Her rhyming scheme doesn’t piss me off (that’s two for two in that two songs, she might have hope yet!… okay maybe not) her lyrics are actually well put together, and she doesn’t reference shitting or having a dick. She has a couple lines that make me cringe like when she says "Such a heavy burden placed upon me!” (at least back that up next time, nobody feels sympathetic for superstars) and "I represent an entire generation!” (PLEASE GOD NOOOOO!) Is it ABC rhymes? Kind of, but that’s not the point, the point is it’s a good song, if not lacking heart. If this song just grabbed a nice message, or included a story in the music video, damn it could have been really good. In the last song, it was such a relief to not have a shitty song I had to review, I think that was a big part of the reason I liked it. But now that the idea has died out, I don’t really care all that much about this song. Whenever this pops up on my iPod, it gets skipped. Not once, not a couple times, all the time. Now I put just about anything and everything on my iPod, and end up skipping tons of songs, (many of which are from this album) but still. And so far I don’t even know if I’ve said I liked Nicki Minaj. My answer, I don’t fucking know her. For example I like Eminem’s music, but I don’t know him, so I don’t exactly like him like on a personal level. So I don’t exactly hate Nicki Minaj. Do I hate her music? Well, that’s what these reviews will tell you. There are parts like in Kanye’s Monster and B.o.B.’s Out of My Mind where I think she really killed it, and she was used well. But her own content so far I don’t hate to death, but I think it’s pretty damn bad. And at this point I have heard the sequel album, and that’s just… let’s not talk about. More shitty reviews some other day. But for this song, it’s a pretty calm song, one if it was on the radio, I would leave it sit. If we’re talking music video, it’s bad again. It’s just Rihanna and Nicki walking around ruble, which I guess captures that sense of going up, but it’s not actually there for a story or reason. There are real places in the world that suck they could have just walked around, and somebody would have thought they’d have been the most novel masterminds of the world, so why didn’t they? I paid more attention to what they were wearing than the rest of the video… it’s that boring. Not to mention Rihanna was hot and Nicki had another ass shot. (She really doesn’t ever not do that does she?) But Nicki had another moment I was just laughing. Her fucking hair as she looks all pitiful at the rubble was hilarious. How can I take a chick serious if she has a big ass wig like that on? Not to mention but possibly one of the most unfitting and embarrassing fight scenes in the history of entertainment. Music vid was dead, but that’s another thing, who really cares? Usually when songs have heart of depth, I can put music videos in my head to make up for the real one. When a song is limitless with my imagination, that’s when I really love it. Not one music video could be thought of with this song for me. And that’s kind of feel about the song, but it can be good if I’m in the mood, but other than that, eh.
