Episode 70 Review (A Shirker's Call to Action: Layabout No More!)

Episode 70 Review (A Shirker's Call to Action: Layabout No More!)

Oh, you just got to love these annoying episode names more and more. Anyway, episode seventy is another Shikamaru episode, and I could have a hundred of these. So nine enemy ninjas are following Naruto and the others. Shikamaru being the awesome tactician he is, plays the scenario in a few ways, and knows the best way to handle them is having one person stay back and delay them. He actually volunteers, knowing he’s the best for the job. That’s another thing I like about Shikamaru, he knows what he is, and he’ll do the job if he has to, even if it means putting them above his lazy attitude. Then when I see people who say Shikamaru is a lazy punk who just says everything is a drag, I kind of just don’t see why, he has so much more going for his character. And he almost references this in this episode to when he says I guess you didn’t know me as well as you thought you did. Of course Sakura had doubted him, and thought he’d just run away, and not do his job, but he did. He made fake tracks, then caught all eight ninja in a shadow possession jutsu. Of course there was a ninth ninja who stayed behind, and he’s able to find out where he is. But his chakra isn’t high enough to do anything about it, and he just keeps the jutsu until eventually he knows it’ll break. It was like a game of chess, but he had so few pieces against so many, and did the best he could with what he had. Then just when there seemed no hope, Shikamaru’s sensei Atsuma saved the day, and won the battle. Shikamaru took a long awaited sigh and our episode ended. The episode I thought was really good, and kept up the pace fairly. I gave the last Shikamaru episode a ten, but only because it was the best of everything it was suppose to do, and there wasn’t really a huge momentum to follow. This however there was, and this is when the real action was suppose to be starting. This is still great for Shikamaru’s character, but I still say maybe this should have been wrapped up a little sooner. It filled the whole episode slot with good pace, but it’s just a good episode, nothing really special. I’m happy there was more Shikamaru, but still hoping for a little more.
