Episode 40 Review (Held Captive)

 Episode 40 Review (Held Captive)

And the Dragonball Z Reviews are back! I’ve been away for a little while, so now it’s about time to get back into the DBZ reviews. Now I might be reviewing the episodes a little less often, and have breaks in between. I’m also doing Naruto reviews along side the usual reviews of all types of entertainment, so I won’t be able to dedicate a lot of usual time into these reviews like season one, but will still get the reviews out as quickly as possible. Starting off is episode forty, held captive. We start off right at the cliffhanger of season one (perhaps one of the most mild cliffhangers between season ever) Our heroes half naked, bald, and child stand before a well armed army of children. However soon the ship finds itself in the middle of an asteroid field. Due to the chaos Krillin and the others escape, but turn back to help save the kids, put out fires, and for Bulma to pilot the ship. The kids are still hostile at first, simply because they think our heroes work with a guy named "Frieza.” Oh, if only they knew. For now let’s pretend like we don’t know who that is. You see the origin of how the kids escaped their planet and one of the kids named Boon even sees Cui who gives him a tiny scar. The kids in the end are kind of likable, and remind me a little of the orphans from the episode Plight of the Orphans, which is one of my favorites. Maybe it’s because the main kid has the same voice as the main orphan. I like little one episode characters like this, and even though it doesn’t last long it’s still interesting. It’s a cool little prelude to the introductory of Frieza and his empire. And meanwhile Goku has his own life threatening situation, getting a shot. Yes, Goku can bench press a comet but he can’t get a shot without freaking out. That makes him look pretty human for a guy who’s so unstoppable. But soon we find Vegeta back in space, and he’s landing on a random high tech planet that knows he’s friendly, and is wondering where Nappa is. (I wonder if Vegeta told them that he killed him) The interesting thing is that they are wearing Saiyan armor and have scouters. It doesn’t tell anything after that, but you get the feeling something much bigger than the Saiyans is at work. Then our heroes after a weird storm in space, find they’ve arrived on Planet Namek! Yep… TOTALLY PLANET NAMEK! Our episode ends there, and it hunches that Planet Namek is somewhat mysterious and suspicious. In the end I thought the episode was really nice, and the orphans and just big question marks in your head kept you invested. Not bad for a season starter, and even though we got some fillerish episodes coming up, there still feels like something much bigger in the waters. With season two at a good start who knows what could go on from here.
